TIMELINE( Idle time shop)

As I tried to drift asleep last night
I kept bumping into memories
of things like winter's cold sun light
and leaves falling in autumn's breeze,
and how all beginnings have an end.

I'd deal with one then once again
another would pop into mind
sometimes of places I have been
trees of a past now far behind
where a ridge dropped to a river's bend.

But mostly I'd recall some friend
and the things we used to do.
During those times we would pretend
that no life's story could be through.
We just didn't comprehend.

Soon I let loose a wide yawn.
The late hour soon would close my eyes
for a few hours would see the dawn
then suddenly to my surprise
the waking hours reached their end.

And memories turned into a dream
in which all those gone had gathered 'round
a table, Thanksgiving it seemed.
All the talking and laughter a joyful sound.
All my kin and every friend.

Then the hall clock chimed me awake
just as the dark turned into light.
I stretched old legs to ease their ache
and scratched at an old chigger bite.
I then began to comprehend.

That memories fade into dreams
and dreams portend what may yet come
they morph together without seams.
This allowed me to finally see
that there really is no end.

a good poem which held my attention through and through but still trying to figure out what was the inner war....will appreciate your letting me know what i obviously have missed out...

be well..

There is no inner war intended. This is about realizing how memories affect dreams and dreams can affect reality. Guess I wasn't clear enough with this one
