Sleepy

For a myriad of reasons,
a nap sounds
divine.

The act of taking rest
on pure sheets
softened in open air,

willingly close my eyes,
let my consciousness
be altered,

become vulnerable
to spiders in my bed
and lion-hearts in my dreams,

to lie among those dreams,
be gloriously happy,
drift into nirvana -

to slumber
rest
heal.

It is nirvana that I seek.
It is the spider to whom
I must show fellowship.

Those are harmful spiders, for certain! Hopefully my poem conveys the message that enlightenment cannot be achieved without embracing and letting go of real or potential fears. Dunno.
I like your new picture of you in your truck!

Dear Lavender, your poem is lovely. I too wish I could achieve Nirvana, believed by both Budhism and Hinduism. As for spiders, I have a phobic fear of them, even the harmless ones, especially if they're a considerable size. Where I live, there are some tiny brown spiders that are deadly. But with all the devastating fumigation going on, I doubt whether there any left.
I'm struck by "lion hearts in my dreams", sounds nice. No nits at all, best, Gracy

I don't know which sounds worse, the deadly spiders or the fumigation. Both equally frightening, I guess.

nit-pik. I think the use of the word [within] open air to be a little counter to your intent. Much better to say; in the open air. A subtlety, yes, but... I thoroughly enjoyed this and remember crawling into bed on sheets having been dried on a clothes-line in the open air [ before the advent and necessity of dryers] and experiencing a Nirvana, myself. Sharing my bed with a spider is something I would rather do without, no matter the toxicity, but I get your point; better to relax and shed unnecessary fears, in order to have a good rest. ~ Geezer.

This must be the place, 'cause there ain't no place like this place anywhere near this place.

Spiders seemed to be the biggest threat to going to sleep, other than the monster in the closet, which was my first choice. But we all know monsters don't exist...do they? There was nothing like those fresh sheets off the line. Nirvana! I am going to change that "within" to "in" - much better!
Thank you!

Don't know how I missed this. I think there are many prolific poets here that I am unable to comment on every thing.
I am happy I could finally got this one. The opening lines are my favorite. When it's time to take a nap, nothing then is more precious.
Thanks for sharing.
