Ndifreke

Ndifreke,
Do not allow the belly to make you useless,
Little by little grow the bananas,
There are no shortcuts to the roof of a palm tree,
If you overtake a leader, you will break your neck.

When a fire is set to the hay,
It becomes difficult to control, be guided,
A clever king is the brother of Peace.
So I avenge hatred with loving wisdom,
For God has created lands with lakes
And rivers for man to live,
And the desert so that he can find his soul.

With humanity, in this desert, I find my soul
A holy hermit, that I may not chase clout
Nor sell my soul to greed and hypochondriac fad
Knowing fully well that
A person with too much ambition cannot sleep in peace.

They say if love is a sickness, patience is the remedy,
Little by little the rain droplets fill the pot to the brim,
Haste and hurry can only bear children
with many regrets along the way.
Life is a script, play yours
All the monkeys cannot hang on the same branch.

Ndifreke watch, for I am the elephant
that does not limp when walking on thorns.
I am like the palm wine that may lose its taste,
but not its strength…
Ndifreke watch!
The chameleon looks in all directions before moving.
If the elders leave you a legacy of dignified language,
You do not abandon it and speak childish tongues.

Our people say that If an arrow has not entered deeply,
then its removal is not hard.
Where error gets to, correction cannot reach.
A brave man dies once, a coward a thousand times.

I understand that no matter how full the river,
it still wants to grow.
It is human nature to climb by trampling
In the end birds of all kinds will end up landing.
So I beg this one last tag, not to maim but to instruct,
And if the bow glue to hands after the arrow is sent,
I shall come for the cows
after the donkeys have grown horns.

Review Request (Intensity):
I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back
Review Request (Direction):
What did you think of my title?
How was my language use?
What did you think of the rhythm or pattern or pacing?
How does this theme appeal to you?
How was the beginning/ending of the poem?
Is the internal logic consistent?

Good one drey so many content in here
i love reading this

always remember to make a critique of other poems
using the hoe is not madness for nothing

If you can’t get a job as a poet you sure can get one in a fortune cookie factory! The poem mixed with these amazing little wisdoms is a great devise. Bravo
Not sure it matters but I wish I knew who/what ndifreke was, might add a bit to the interpretation.
The only suggestion is about hyperchondria- the word feels out of place both in sound and it’s clinical meanings
This poem is a great read. Thanks

I'd rather learn from one bird how to sing
than teach ten thousand stars how not to dance

This is Africanism that's how I call it for it's rich and healthy for African Americans to read.
