The Banned Elasticated

The Banned Elasticated….
She tightens the band to help the vein,
inserts a dirty needle deep.
pressing the plunger she chases her pain,
not long now she’ll find sleep.

Her body ravaged gaunt abused,
childhood memories she’ll not dream.
Score payed from corners cruised,
she’ll wake tomorrow inside a scream.

A life that was found not chosen,
hard to function from a broken shell.
Body feels like water solid frozen,
liquid hard inside an unyielding hell.

Somewhere maybe awaits the place,
she never dreamt but glimpsed as a child.
Where she could flower inside her grace,
living her life in a freedom rarely spoiled.

Until then she’ll chase then ride the horse,
scant regard for the danger inside each vile.
Each poisonous hit must run it’s course,
maybe just maybe she’ll pass in style.

a powerful piece! It touches on the abject hopelessness of the addict. It comes across as a heartfelt understanding of the plight of the addict. Someone who cannot find their way back home to the comfort of family, friends and a life of contentment. It's hard for a lot of people to keep giving and giving aid and comfort to someone who does not seem care enough to change. I understand that. Life is hard. But if we turn our backs on those who suffer from addiction, and we lose the chance to rescue at least one life, who are we? ~ Geezer.

Thank you Gee, this poem was in relation to a film shown to our class in technical college 50 years ago. The film was about a woman coming off of heroin, obviously warning us about the dangers of drugs and for me it worked. But I have had some experience of others struggling with addiction, and it's not a very nice thing to watch. Regards Roscoe...

Roscoe Llane,

Religion will rip your faith off, and return
for the mask of disbelief that's left.
