Like God

I weep
and god never could

I love every inch
like god never should

I breathe air
god doesnt breathe
I eat and taste
grow cold and hot
worry and fear

will die
like god
never will

and will never live in this house thatched
with bones like I do

so this is an old unspoken prayer
to be
touchless
breathless
desireless
and fixed in fullness
of eternal expanding ecstasy
like god
to never be

This must be the place, 'cause there ain't no place like this place anywhere near this place.

Being requires polarity ie binary action as in life and death; form and formlessness God is beyond the binary system of creation
The great IT is a singularity ie beyond form and being ….. self effulgent

of eternal expanding ecstasy
like god
to never be.....the last line refers to be beyond all concepts of being ie the Zen being without being

the dialectic of a " broken world"

The ancient Chinese term for the Unknowable Ultimate was the Nameless Tao, also called Wu (No Thing - but not nothing) or Wu Wu (Non-Being: the exact equivalent of the Upanishadic reference to Brahman as neti neti: 'not that, not that'). It was called 'Tao without a Name' to distinguish it from 'Tao with a Name', namely Being as the Principle of Existence, the Origin of the 'ten thousand things'. The dependence of Being on Non-Being, the One on the Nought, can be best illustrated by an aphorism of Lao-tsu from the Tao Te Ching, in which the founder of Taoism points out that domestic vessels are useful solely because of their hollowness, and that houses can be inhabited only because their rooms are filled with empty space and their windows and doorways define voids. Such images clearly exemplify the nature and function of Taoist Non-Being. ie this is the inference of "not to be" in the poem Personally I don't think most folks understand the notion of being in Gods image imperticularly the Abrahamic hordes or the treacherous Roman senators of Nicaea 325 AD; so consider the source ie Does God have a dick and an asshole or is self effulgent spirit beyond form If I seem sarcastic its nor about the divine but rather the high minded ignorance of exoteric Christian lore and myth an its adherents.

I like the juxtaposition between god and man. Is this meant to be an explanation of why Jesus was sent to live as a man? There are a few lines I'd have written differently but upon review I realized they would have just been different not better lol......

Well it could be. The idea of god/man threads itself through human history and to me it does have a basis in reality and even beyond that I can conceive of each of us at our best could be that
What does it mean to be a god-man? It means a universalized soul both stuck into the web of the senses and fractured consciousness of the binary essential to manage human / animal life and super human divine consciousness Then the question may remain are those to 2 states alternating or simultaneous? I think they are alternating based on my own experience ie the consciousness in flux depending on what's demanded of it at any given time. In other words is one on the battle field like Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita or deep in the alternate Moksha ( the transcendent state attained as a result of being released from the cycle of rebirth.) But the point of the poem is that god itself ie Matrix or self effulgent singularity is out side the binary system ie beyond form and the Luciferic frenzy of Eros or the agonizing tedium of rational thought represented as Ahriman

I'll try to be brief. on this subject I could go on a while...Firstly, however you measure "success" in writing a poem, you have written a successful poem to me. a good flow of emotion and intellect. I generally do not like poems with too many one word per line, but here it works great.

The subject has been best handled by the great poet Octavio Paz in a collection of essays "Children of the Mire" He suggests that in the "modernist tradition" (which he calls out as an oxymoron and ridiculous as you can't be both) began in the Romantic period when the idea of "God is dead" became the main theme of poets, introducing that poetry was the new god..

"the death of God is a Romantic theme. It is not philosophical but religious: as far as reason is concerned, God either exists or does not exist. If He exists, He cannot die; if not, how can someone who has never existed die?......The ancients knew the gods were mortal; They were manifestations of cyclical time and as such would come to life again and die again.. (In Christianity and others) if someone says "god is dead" he is announcing an unrepeatable fact. God is dead forever. "

He goes on to discuss the nature of time, the future (as seen by Dante) and concludes

"In the middle ages poetry was the handmaiden of religion; in the romantic ear, it was the true religion."

and ends with this gem

"the death of God is not a philosophic but a religious theme, a myth. Romantic poetry is revolutionary, not with but against the revolutions of the century; and its religion is a transgression of religion" .

thought you might like this philosophic muse. The book is amazingly well done literary criticism.

Okay Mark Here I go again ;)

My understanding is at odds with your own and here's why The notion that God is dead was first put forth by Frederick Nietzsche and later popularized in one of my favorite books of all time
Thus Spake Zarathustra It was never meant to be taken as a cosmic fact but the social phenomena generated by the so called age of reason ie science industry rationalism and therefore antithetical to the impulse of the romantic visionary and god
God became dead in the human mind as in irrelevant partly because Christianity itself sought truth and the truth of the concrete facts of scientific observable life death and nature superseded the belief in the unknowable and therefore the so called enlightenment murdered the inexplicable divine
BTW as you may well know Nietzsche was a philosopher not a romantic at least in the formal sense

Atheism is 'the awe-inspiring catastrophe of a two thousand year discipline in truth that finally forbids itself the lie involved in belief in God.' (The Genealogy of Morals 111:27)

In his book Twilight of the Idols, Nietzsche announces:
“What is called idol on the title page is simply what has been called truth so far. Twilight of the Idols – that is: the old truth is approaching its end.” (Twilight of the Idols, Friedrich Nietzsche)

I agree poetry transgresses religion as does music dance good food sex and most pleasures even romantic love They represent the mirth of Lucifer which may represent one side of the satanic the other being the tedious concrete illusion of Araman ie the so called age of enlightenment to include science
So interestingly enough we have the iteration of the binary here which causes attachment and obsession to the finite The infinite demands the abject renunciation of attachment and the world demands the abject subjugation to the demon …..Reason or the other ie The Apollonian and Dionysian axis which to the pure white light spiritualist is also satanic
This touches deeply the on going dialectic between us; The surreal corresponding to the Dionysian
(Venusian) and the Apollonian (Solar) Having said that in my opinion one must integrate both to be whole The tertiary is the singularity outside of this axis and to be truly free one needs to embrace the super reality of this monad Thats why neither Crowley nor Gurdeiff in my opinion are ultimately that useful. Neither supplied a methodology to bring themselves or others into a unified field of consciousness ie GOD

a lot to digest...
First I'd like to bring out that Octavio Paz places Jean Paul Richter as the poet who first dabbled in the idea that "god is dead" which spread in romanticism like wildfire. Jean Paul was very well known to Nietzsche and everyone else at the time, there's a poet who is so little known outside of Germany. He was their Blake. Paz says:

Jean Paul's poem "Dream" that Christ was an orphan scandalized "the philosopher as well as the priest, the atheist as well as the believer. Jean Paul's dream was dreamed, thought, and suffered by many poets, philopshers, and novelists of the 19th and 20th centuries: Neitzsche, Mallarme, Joyce, Valery...."

Interesting the weight Paz places on this now obscure writer. Jean Paul wrote 40 books.

For me modern atheism meets spiritual in your statement "unified field of consciousness ie GOD"
Is that not the teachings of Krishnamurti and his brothers and apostles like Eckhart Tolle?

God to me, personally, is an instinct. It was created by the subconscious to deal with consciousness. I feel this instinct in me, like the instinct to protect my children to challenge other males for dominance. When in danger my subconscious calls out to the all knowing force of life to save me. Like many primal instincts, Freud 101. So I can say god exists because he has to exist, consciousness of godhood is built into me, but I don't have to accept the golden calf the instinct produces. The poem becomes the religious act, the transcendent consciousness. Blake nailed it. The imagination can embody and transpose the primal. From that starting point I can see the forces of energy and forces of destruction forever at work, as they are forever in the cosmos.
But as I choose my godhood I see neither Nobodaddy nor Satin or any other cartoon character.
As Paz might say of me, (in Children of the Mire) I'm just another modern stuck in the mire of Romanticism, looking for a rebirth of tradition.

I looked for Paz in the hopes of at least a brief glimpse on the poetry foundation to no avail so ill have to have to dig up something soon and read his work I like the idea of the hybrid both the social/ philosophical commentary of Nietzsche and a poetic/ romantic view of the same.

As I understand it and I do mention it above is the limitation of western thought in that it tethers the idea of God to the instinctual fear based quest for being saved and / or the creative imagination ie man creates god in his own image goo goo plex.0

Aside from both the poetic romantic and cultural philosophic there is a tertiary spectrum that is neither which is rooted in Vedanta and its subsequent other spiritual iterations like Buddhism
and that is an initiation ie the opening of the 3rd eye and other associated methods of inner working of which I am intimately familiar These practices move one beyond the realm imagination or philosophy which is purely experiential Nothing I have read of Krishnamurti that I can remember back in the day alludes to such practices His appeared to me to be a path of logic but feel free to enlighten me about his writing if you feel differently

This brings me to the subject of atheism Its great error to my understanding is that it has the audacity to claim it knows the experience of those among us who are having profound spiritual experiences It is cavilear in that it negates the revelatory experiences of others which it has no way to access This was an ongoing dialectic with my father while he was alive who thought of himself an atheist His argument was if he cant see it, feel it. taste it, fuck it, it couldn't possibly exist My argument to my father who was an adherent to the cult of science, not that it doesnt have its place in binary reality; was that at the very moment he stated his opinion billions of neutrinos where shooting though his body and he had no perception of it at all and therefore his premise for such an opinion was flawed

Atheism's is based on the closed system of binary thought
Unified field of reality is not just a concept of integration that one may ponder intellectually; it is in fact a spell binding alternate reality ie mystic experience usually hard earned by those who have been initiated into the Royal Yogas and the dying

Here's a more pragmatic view

just wanted to mention Charles Fourier, who for Paz was the most influential thinker in the last 250 years. He is where everyone found the occult, the whole new concept of passion and society.

My father always reminded me of a scribble on the wall of Auschwitz- "If there is a god, he would have to beg his forgiveness from me". I am very antagonistic towards the concept of Jehovah, the Nobodaddy of Blake. I think the whole concept of Nature, that all life consumes life to exist, is fucked up, and with no plan B I think any such creator is a loser. He's fired! As one of the "chosen people" I demand it chooses someone else. But seriously, it's ridiculous to assume prayer and belief in this sadistic, egocentric character (1st commandment!) has any value other than feed yourself psychosis.
However, those magic mushrooms or whatever it takes to get you into a state outside of time, personality, and ego, that state exists. we all know it because hopefully we experience it a few times in a lifetime, some golden moment when the universe makes sense just because you are in it.
It is a moment of feeling love, or peace, and unafraid. Some people seek to be there all the time.
I know I cannot be. But often poetry keeps me pretty high. I guess I keep coming back for that endorphin rush.

Yes your point about the horrors of the world ie the creation is indisputable
It is the great and terrible god as A Crowley I think correctly identifies it and this my friend is one of the differences between the exoteric low minded big three religions and others like them of faith dogma and obedience The esoteric texts like kabbala and certain gnostic texts suffer no such allusions and delusions ie what is the difference between occult science / scholarship and faith based gobbledygook
The synoptic religions are tragedies of human kind and they are suppose to be as they characterize the dark age we are in They evoke the film the great ideocracy Its where humans are at They are not spiritualized for the most part instead they live in a world of myth which they think of as some far off reality instead of understanding they are metaphors and what the metaphors mean in the universal sense

Read Crowley The Golden Dawn material Rudolph Steiner The Kabbalah The Lesser Keys of Solomon Chaos Magick and learn real Yogic practice
I would characterize religion the way most know it as the comic version of spirituality or worse yet the readers digest version

When people attack the notion of the creator its from the perspective of the uninitiated who see the matrix of creation as a moralistic patriarch and then can't square that with the cruelty of the world soul. What they are actually attacking is the rubbish of the synoptic religions and their corresponding back water culture of myth and mistaking it for source. Lets face it we come from something; its inescapable: Just because we our selves are capable of inflicting miseries on otheres doesnt mean we don't exist

Your words cause me to imagine that God is dead, therefore it must be separate from other 'persons' in human form. My takeaway is that you clearly demonstrate the absence of life...bravo! In human history the personhood of god has been the source of extreme cruelty and wars, so yes, let that god be "...touchless...breathless...desireless" and may that form stay dead for all eternity. I would like to see a turn around in your words that touch your SOURCE of life, the one that we all have within each and every one of us. Well done!

"If you meet Buddha on the road, kill him"

I so appreciate your comment and immediate intuitive connection with what I was attempting in this piece We are totally on the same wave length about the personification ie cultural disambiguation of source or universalization bereft of myth as literal which has been just another set up for more folly and human catastrophe

I would like to see a turn around in your words that touch your SOURCE of life, the one that we all have within each and every one of us. Well done!

Well the source may well be that thing that is beyond form that lies within and beyond us Infinite yet taking up no space
Perhaps we are the eternal truth and untruth strangely mixed

so this is an old unspoken prayer
to be
touchless
breathless
desireless
and fixed in fullness
of eternal expanding ecstasy
like god
to never be

ie beyond being as we know it certainly
