Grading On The Curve

sometimes it's tug of war
our passions pulling
us in and out
of the shadows

a win-lose proposition
a crossing of
the proverbial line

but if we consider
the philosophy
of fear

how it's there
not just to prohibit
but to protect

how sex
is not just
a dangerous obsession
but the life creating
force of our universe

life becomes more
like a parabola

all the dark and bright
stars of experience
plotted on a graph

that becomes a cup
to fill fill fill

not a ribbon to cut

maybe we never reach the finish line

"Maybe we never reach the finish line." I'm a little backward, but I don't believe in endings, and this is an attractive closing line! Your beginning is intriguing
Just a slight mention of shadows is always a wake-up call for me.
All in all, shadows are born of light. I appreciate your welcome, I will look forward to more of your work. Keep a hold of the pen, writing is a very good art
You have an interesting twist in your style, thank you, Allseasonsverse.

thanks! yeah, I've been writing poems using haikus as a prompt, and this one is inspired by the haiku: "full winter moon: / the icicle / the icicle's shadow". after a hard day feeling like fear was controlling my interactions with people, it was good to think about how fear serves good purposes, too, and see the good in the bad. the little white circle in the dark yang symbol. I wish I was a scientist or a mathematician AND a poet, so I could dive deeper into that connection, be smarter about the connections I make. this is an attempt, however. I look forward to reading your stuff, too. and your thoughtful comments on poems. the monthly contests are good ways to interact on neopoet, too.
