Massacre

The burn fires of corpses litter the road like refuse
Competing with the inferno on buildings
A juxtaposition of evil
Reminds me of a black sabbath
A demonic Guy Fawkes Night
A ghostly spectacle
Fills me with terrors of hell
The tremors of a child trapped in a well.

The deafening wails and screams of souls in this man made Purgatory
An atheist prayer a priest's blasphemy
My vision blurred by smoke of devil's color
The sickly smell of rotting bodies
Mixed with acrid smoke
And burning rubber all
Combined to form a nauseating sensation
Which my system protests helplessly to
I stand aghast as the grotesque sight fills me with trepidation
And I cannot stop this I am helpless too.

The flames from faggots in the street
Is nothing compared to the fire in my heart
Fire of rage consume me
Why this destruction I ask?
For there is no reason or crime worthy of this massacre.

The dead had a pleasant exit:
They did not live to see their kinsmen led as lamb to the slaughter
Butchered like cattle in an abattoir
Heads roll downhill without a guillotine
They are not weighed down by grief
Neither are they chocked by the shriveled hands of despair clasped tightly round our necks choking every iota of hope.

We dance like headless chickens to the frenzied tunes of death,
We trot soullessly
"A Carnival of Naked Souls"
With no comforter.

Dead bodies all around
Putrid stench everywhere

Total slaughter...

Review Request (Intensity):
I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back
Review Request (Direction):
What did you think of my title?
How was my language use?
What did you think of the rhythm or pattern or pacing?
How does this theme appeal to you?
How was the beginning/ending of the poem?
Is the internal logic consistent?
Last few words:
To the victims of random acts of violence everywhere, to the victims of the ethnic cleansing in the North East of Nigeria...
