RETURN

Anesthetic mists swirl as they part
while consciousness at last returns.
Surgeons have finished their wet task.
Mouth is dry and my throat burns.

High oxygen content tints the air.
Beeps and murmurs echo in the room.
Slowly I retreat from over "there",
that place where many meet their doom.

Beneath strong meds the pain resounds
(leg floating in another space)
On bobbing waves of oceanic sound.
An errant grimace flicks my face.

I blink then open gummy eyes
which take in a room sterile and bare.
Then I roll my head the other way.
Susan sits and smiles from over there.

In an ICU I see you Stan
from verses you've written
bearing pain like a brave man
you tell us about your return

poetry flows through your vein
from your soul you give it words
even when you're bearing pain
you fight it with poetic swords

so good to hear from you Stan...get well soon and return home...please convey my regards to your better half Susan...

warmly...

Oh poet brave, from cheated grave, enduring scalpel knife
the pain, be true, about your knee, will give you jip and strife,
but, troop on crave, regain your step and rummage up your life
so you can stride a country walk with your beloved wife! :)

:) Well done Stan, brilliant poem - really hits the spot! Ouch!

Get well soon!

LOve to you and Sue xxx

and welcome back from "out there"
As usual you excel in showing (underlined) rather than merely telling us about everything around you.
Hope all is WELL!!!

Now, the verse 'An errant grimace flicks my face.' is very new for me

Please tell Suzan hello for me.
In Arabic we say 'Salamat' for someone who is just in your position.
Thanks for sharing!!!

"Anesthetic mists swirl as they part
while consciousness at last returns",
you put a lot into this piece I can tell these are some lines that stand out to me.
I love the message and following very deep.
Other thoughts, "Beneath strong meds the pain resounds"...made me think of my own life and my ordeal with meds was taken back a bit very warm.
Don't change a thing Stan really on the mark thank you kindly sir.

Hi Stan!
Welcome back from the other side.
You brought a great poem from there.
I like the flow and the story.
I wanted to hear more about how you cross that barrier returning from unconscious sleep.
Perhaps another poem?
There was a peculiar feeling in my case, I had a surgery a few years back, of partial return, at first I saw the ceiling, the outlines of curtains and metal bearings of my bed, like thin ribs of an alian, and then I put it all together into a hospital cubical.
And yes! to see the face of loved one was a huge relief.

And a tremendous thank you for such a kind response for this scribble. Still painful sitting at computer which is why I didn't reply individually to your kind comments. Unlike the past 8 years I can now look forward to Less pain as each day passes but it's pretty close to hell right now. Now Off to ghost trough some of ya'll's stuff............stan

I will remember it a few years when I do the same with my knee...and so hate dreamless anesthesia.
Hope you're hobbling around soon with little pain!

Your words are elegant and devine I was taken back with each tender chord
You deserve a medal of some sort this I must report the feeling of desire
There is a want nor need to watch the sentences bleed share with each other
To offer up the burden used to take place in the edge of sorts this I report
Thank you living on the edge very good structure hidden well below
I believe this is the best that I have read from you keep at it.

So it's safe to assume you like this one? lol. I appreciate your dropping by
