Where great King Billy pines

Snake trees inscribed
with lichen tales
trails that lead
to rosewood polished pools

The tangle-foot Fagus
falls from green to gold to red
here, are all the seasons
and rivers fed from way above

Currawong* scrapes his metallic song
along the rusted belt of sky
and through moss and scrub,
light on foot we fly

Bleached white trunks abound
an ancient rare trod ground
and the eyes of wombat holes
stare out the blinking earth

And finally, the river flows
quiet with all its thought wrung out

Look beyond the ridge line,
look: beyond the scree,
where great King Bill pines his love
and all the world can see,
the verdant lustre of this place
and how, it found the peace
in you and me.

It's evident enough that you're touring among some wonerful places through your exquisite descriptive piece. I loved every word there and appreciated the use of the alliteration especially in the opening stanzas. Can't really decide a favorite line or stanza as I really like all. However the use of the word finally in the stanza before the last came to limit the unlimited scene for me and I am not sure about the use of the colon and the comma in tbe last stanza. Maybe I'm missing sth there?
Anyway I've really enjoyed the tour. Thank you.

And, yes - very lucky to tour these sacred places and make some jottings around them. I will take on your suggestions, read it out again, and probably make some adjustments to try and open it up. Glad you enjoyed the little journey through a vast country..:)

Take care,

Chris.
