In Rememberance of Lonnie

It is with a heavy heart and grief we must inform the members of neopoet.com of the loss of one of our family members, and most brilliant poets, Lon Robert Bruso- Lonnie.
For those that didn’t know Lonnie he was, in his own words-
“Vietnam Vet / Hippie / Mountain Man. Outspoken yet reclusive, un-politically correct, will defend to the death things that I believe in. I love to write poetry and songs, sing, fish and watch old westerns. If I had my druthers I'd probably live 15 miles from Bigfoot's last known whereabouts!”
He was the uncle anybody could talk to, the strident soul who always spoke his truth. Whether it be in his own poetry or the chat room you knew when Lonnie was speaking. He was a wordmaster and most importantly he spoke his mind. Whenever we lose one of our family members a sadness glooms over us but also a time of reflection.

Lon had the most extraordinary innate grasp of meter, rhyme and imagery. One of the most brilliant natural poets I have ever read. He was the kind of man who was always eager to help in his own way. Today a part of neopoet has been taken but it will never be forgotten. Lonnie's memory is forever within his poetry and his love for the written word of the Soul. We miss you good friend wherever you may have gone may you find the peace that you so deserve. Lonnie promise me you won't stop giving them hell, wherever you are.

We will be celebrating Lonnie’s life and works with a retrospective of his works, all are welcome to contribute.

So sad to know about the demise of Lonnie. I have been privileged to read his fine poetry which almost always had a forthright message with no hold barred. Though we never met, I could sense that he was a humble person in spite of his background in Vietnam war, pain of which could be felt in many of his poems. He and his wife provided space to each other in posting poems here on Neopoet which were diverse in themes and yet one could sense they had a great partnership.

It is said that "death is not extinguishing the light but merely closing the lamp because it's a new dawn"...I pray for his soul to remain in eternal peace and for his near and dear ones to have the courage to face an immense loss...

In solemn prayer,

to a very fine poet ... rest in peace.

he made meter, important messages, and countless themes seem so easy to write. We had our disagreements, but he was so easy to talk to and he was a good man through and through.

Here is a spooky one of his that I loved:

well... poets. And I never doubted that in a couple of years I would be sitting on his front porch with him, having a beer, sunburnt and with a sore shoulder from learning to shoot.

Lonnie what can I say, the last few months have been some of the darkest, now you have taken your light to another realm.
There you will find that peace you so wanted, and there we will meet again, if only to walk on the golden sands.
I will call your name as I take my light to your new home.
Neopoet has lost again, I feel lost, why, I am not sure, but know this my friend, there in another place at another time we will walk together,
Yours as always Ian ..

He taught me almost as much about writing, just by his example, as all the workshops I was ever involved in. 'Nuff said

and a very human human.
His poetry taught me so much. Not just in it’s composition but in its content.
RIP
