GREEN VALLEYS

These hills and ridges I've been on
over all these lengthy years
have taken a heavy toll on me
with their beauty, joys and tears.

And today I finally looked ahead
at yet another harsh steep trail
wondering how much longer it might be
before hips and legs would finally fail.

Then by chance my gaze turned down
to a valley where a river flowed
slowly through more gentle lands
where rich green crops are grown and mowed.

All gentle lands I used to shun
as hardly being worth my time
when I strolled beneath a younger sun.
They now appear to me sublime.

Perhaps it's time I turn down hill
and enjoy some final years of rest
instead of challenging my will.
Which lands suit an old man best?

Nice poem and sentiments which I can certainly can relate to, I've recently moved home to Scotland and I am doing a lot of walking. I live on the edge of the largest forest in Britain and I love my time out with the dogs. Sorry I haven't been commenting lately but hopefully this is the first of many. Once again nice poem. Roscoe Llane,

Religion will rip your faith off, and return
for the mask of disbelief that's left.

Been wondering what happened to you and good to see you back. Keep on trekking those sylvan trails and saving up memories. Appreciate you dropping by.......stan

but at hard as it is, with our bodies crying out to us to stop pushing it...
try to stay in the wild, away from the mowed land, away from the nursing homes, away from the rocking chair...there are other trails less dangerous where the view is what your soul seeks, a piece of raw nature
The poem shows your passion . But it does not show any real feeling about the tame landscapes. The poem asks me to say to you- Rage rage against the manicured life, do not go gently in that manicured garden.

Not to worry. Even with my declining strength in legs it's the days when I sit around that are the worst. So I'll keep stubbornly pushing myself. The idea about showing emotion about the green valley (perhaps yearning) is a good one.......stan

Nice imagery which is your forte. On a lighter note I appreciate your choice of going down the slopes of a valley to the river but you would still need to climb your way back up...lol..

That's the problem with letting the easy way lure me in. Once in that gentle valley, it would be hard to leave lol.........stan
