Composure

Gentle the clicking roof adjusts to the cool decay
and gives way to heat,
radios play in each quarter, signalling a return
from the silence that reigned a week ago,
cars growl up and down the unperturbed laneway
quietened and tamed, by a season of artifice,
now, the offices start to hum again,
purpose rules the roost - the workers, more urgent,
less milling around like tired drone flies,
sense more the stirring of something new,
something necessary that impels them forward..

The eyes are back, and upon them all,
along with outsized cars that occupy the senior spots,
normality has returned,
and with it the sobriety of being,
I - in a quiet moment, break free of the pedestrian
the ordinary,
and escape into the blue void of words,
and float out of the warehouse doorway,
out beyond the roasting smells,
and the blue pressed suits,
And the earnest talk of a short life's import,
and up, through the azure, threading with a flurry of letters,
and gently, reassemble - as a line of starlings,
or near as damn it, in a percussive flourish of notes,
on the power lines outside your door.

I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back
Last few words:
Just the resettling - re-adjusting, resuming of life after the holiday - and how odd it all feels now that I'm a bit less connected to it, and my mind is focused on less material things, such as the mad disarray that is the Christmas shopping behemoth - I just had this one on the back burner, I will do some more commenting, just wanted to get it out there, and see if it resonated with anyone. Cheers. Chris.

Yes. Finally the Christmas interruption is starting to fade away for another 8 or 9 months til this one day ridiculously carves itself into year again.
This poem sums up the re entry into the new year orbit perfectly.

I love this

The eyes are back, and upon them all,
along with outsized cars that occupy the senior spots,
normality has returned,

And

and up, through the azure, threading with a flurry of letters,
and gently, reassemble - as a line of starlings,

Good one, Chris.

I'm glad you have a similar perspective on this mad season as I do. The slow return to normality leaves a lot of space for thinking after all the craziness has subsided. What is hard, is to extract anything poetic or meaningful out of the concrete reality of work..slowly creeping back in, but that's what daydreaming is for.

thank you Scatter, you're a legend.

Chris.
