I Read It In A Book
I used to read
a lot
not as much as some
(poor sots)
but a lot more than most
I would saunter into a cocktail parties
thinking I'd be
the most interesting man in the world
all I managed to do was bore the lot
(maybe should have read more on how to pick up women)
so I read more
I'd become the uberman
sparkling with wisdom
glowing with serenity
the go-to-guy for life advise
but that didn't happen either
so I kept on reading
got to admit, it was mentally nourishing
I was now headstrong and vital
fit as a fiddle... in a rock band!
no one cared
erudition is like a delicacy
offered to be nibbled
and only on special occasions
not for dispensing on a daily basis
so I stopped reading
became a regular guy
and am now living happier than ever
(scholars grumble
know-it-all's rant
book-worms mumble
..and poop their pants)

Well told...
I can see some of those people at a party or social gathering of some kind, just going glassy-eyed and drifting away during a lull [while the blowhard is catching a breath] and the wonderment of said blowhard at how uninformed and dull these people are. Lol. I will never stop reading, but I realize that not everyone wants to hear my opinion on everything! Of course, I didn't always know this, but
after suffering some educated [self or otherwise] blowhards myself, became accustomed to the notion. Nice, educated, reflective work Al.

Hey Gee
while espousing anything I thought was cool, most of the listeners only heard prattling.
the more I read, the more prattling I sounded
so I thought to stop reading, instead of to stop talking.
eventually I stopped that too.
I like the quiet better anyway...mind and mouth
thanks for your observations
Al

Write what you like..
And I like what you write. It's honest, and fresh as anything posted on this site. Love it. Keep it up mate.
Cheers.
Chris.
(PS - just fix consuption - consumption - otherwise, you're all good ;) )

I changed the word "consumption"
to "dispensing"
I think it makes more sense
I do appreciate your appreciation very much
