The Killer Family Dinner...

The air breathed homey smells
down the corridor
The kitchen blew hot spices
sweet and sour went to war

There were voices in excitement
I heard them rise and fall
Low rumbles of adults
children laughing in the hall

There were Indians and Pilgrims
a costume here and there
There was a great, long table
that was flanked with many chairs

I peeked into the kitchen
I saw pots of food galore
Covered dishes sat a waiting
in the oven, several more

Shredded breast and toasted scalp
all the fixings for a feast
Three kinds of baked potatoes
bread was rising, full of yeast

The roast was roasting nicely
a Long-Pig of forty pounds
Killer was there grinding
imported coffee grounds

Now you have to have a turkey
because Thanksgiving day is here
Golden brown with stuffing
fish and venison; Oh, dear!

Gravies and steamed veggies
clams and oysters too
Bloody pudding, cooked just right
waiting just for you

Roasted fingers sit in lettuce beds
candied eyeballs for dessert
All the fixings of a holiday
there are dresses and white shirts

Now the prayer and blessing
before you start to eat
Give our thanks to God and Killer
for the gift of Long-pig meat

"Quoth said the Raven, NEVERMORE"

bad enough to be on the menu! Remember that Killer only takes bad people. I'm glad that you like this one, Killer went to a bit of trouble to get everything just right! Be nice and I'm sure that you will get an invitation to dinner. ~ Gee.

It wouldn't be the holidays with out a visit from my favorite serial killer

"Quoth said the Raven, NEVERMORE"

What a feast. The way you described it reminds a childhood memory.
The way you peeked in the kitchen and the way you are frightened by the overwhelming abundance and the way you still hurt thinking about all the sacrifice made for it.
Great write. I envy and enjoy.

to let your perception of the poem's ingredients stand in some cases, but then, I figured that you didn't have the background on Killer. See, Killer is not only a murderer, but a gourmet chef and a cannibal. He only kills bad people, but never lets the meat go to waste. "Long Pig". refers to human meat. He has adoptive family that holds get-togethers, like the holidays. If you want to read more "Killer" I suggest that you go to my works list and anything that has the word "Killer" will of course have "Killer" in it. I have a macabre sense of humor and you might like The Devil's Ride and Explosion, neither of which is a "Killer" poem. Feel free to express any feelings about anything I have written and I will try to explain my purpose for writing it the way I did. Thanks for the read, ~ Geezer.

oh i see thank you for explaining me the poem
the magic of a good write is that it exists at many levels leaving room for imagination.
A beginner's mind, mind of a child, is predisposed to equalize the value of human and animal lives without diminishing the first.
writing and reading about it takes a nerve.

thank you for your kind reply
