Flicker To Flash

homogeneous darkness has no form.

how far can one see
into utter blackness;
an inch,
a light year
how could one tell of difference

but with the flick of a His bic
a cosmic candle is lit
Oh! Wow!
and now we behold

Light and sight
entwined
in spectral glory
bursting forth
forever
to shine
for eyes
for mind
for watchers of dreams

I was reading a humorous poem by you about politics and suddenly this one appeared and the other disappeared.... If you deleted...hey, love to see that too! (I liked the line about the schools...)

This one is quite different. A simple theme, ain't no sight without light. or eyeballs for that matter.
(So god must have had eyeballs to have created light?)

The poem is successful because of the perfect set up in pointing out the lack of depth in darkness. And who has not had the experience of lighting a bic in the darkness when all else fails?

I'll sign my name to most anything, my standards are quite low.
but once in awhile something bothers me enough that I'd rather not have my name attached to it...One stanza in the piece you referred to bugged me to no end, so I unpublished it until I can fix the bitch.

thanks for your appraisal of this piece.
It is satisfying when something plays well with others, 'cause one can never know beforehand, (unless one is prone to delusion)

Has an immediacy, like being in a cave with a Zippo lighter. It burns on to the page, and is gone in a flash, a great glimmer of pure experience, that's it nothing more to add. loved it.

No Crit Al - would love to read it, with your permission on Neopoet audio?

Thanks.

Chris.

If you don't like it, that's cool, if you do like it, that's even better. I'll flick it to Jess "Golden tonsils" Weirdelf if it's OK. Jess puts recordings up on the official FB site.

It is useful, to get another persons sense of how it sounds. No doubt, having a home studio, you could probably do some pretty decent recordings yourself, my gear is basically a laptop, that's it.

Cheers.

Chris

PS If you can suggest any audio software out there that's worth using (besides Audacity) then that would be greatly appreciated. Should probably invest in a decent mike too, entry level stuff is all I need.

you did a brilliant reading
made it sound more "profound", brought out a profundity I wasn't sure was there.
I really like that..made me sound like a poet!
thanks for doing the reading.

as for the other topic; I am out of the contemporary "loop" as far as equipment goes
Most of my tools are old, and broken down.
I no longer have the "juice", the mojo, or the money to rebuild
I haven't recorded now for a few years. I should update my profile.
I never thought I would ever stop doing music, but one day , out of the blue, I simply stopped
AND I don't miss it!... Inexplicable
p.s.
I did use Audacity for awhile for some things. As I recall, it was good

If you do anything for long enough, it's going to give you the shits, as we say down here! A change in direction, always a good thing. And your poems, are always arresting, bold, funny and original. So keep going, it's all good.

Glad you liked the reading. Working on the old technique.

If..you have a working computer , and soundcard (obviously..or maybe you write on a tablet) have the inclination, there are a load of decent free resources out there. This is one that I've been playing with, but not having a sound engineer background, it's probably waaay over the top for me, and only use about one percent of the features, it might make more sense to you and it's free:

I had the good fortune of not trying to make living on music, just total pleasure. I guess because I began late, (in my 50's) but still put in my 10,000+ hours..You've probably but in 10x that. I wish for you the joy of going back to it the way you might have started, just acoustic. It so saddens me to hear you stopped doing music, its such a gift to master an instrument on any level. I can sense you were a great musician.
It's the only thing I have to stop the goddamed run on sentence in my head. I also enjoy reading music, on the low level I do. Intermediate Bach, Cole Porter.
It's great you have so many good poems coming out!

I was never a great player, more of a slam bam thank you ma'am kind'a guy,
as lazy about it as I was about academics.
I enjoyed the composition side though...but never really produced anything that clicked
with the market...I never cared too much about that either.
I am not motivated anymore to do anything that doesn't pounce on me, grabbing me by the throat and refusing to let go until....

maybe one day that will happen again with music

writing small sized poems is occupying my brain for now...and I like it, and that's enough
