The Engaged Writer

(with her silly finger flick to the back of his head,
a tricky scenario dissolved)

" hi Hon, wacha doin?"

"wanna go get some ice cream?
it's a really nice day"

"you know, you spend a lot of time
on that. You should take a break.
let's do something fun"

"When are you going to finish that?"

"What's so important that you can't spend some time with me"

"I'm starting to think you don't like my company!"

"Just tell me, what did I do?"

'YOU INTERRUPTED ME!'

( needless to say, he is no longer engaged, in any sense of the word)

thanks for your quite humorous 'remarks'

I certainly did not mean to imply all writers to be so engaged.
or that intensity of engagement had any correlation to talent.

I am very protective of my private/personal time. but in being so, have resigned myself to living alone. It works for me,(so no pity, please) It would have been nice if this made me a better writer, but It only makes me less ornery.

thanks for checking in on me,

Writers become so engrossed that relationships slip outside the time warp - naturally non writers feel left behind and neglected. It is a problem because when a writer is "on a roll" in my experience they want to put pen to paper before the inspiration dries up - and being interrupted is like having a bomb of distraction that wipes out any thoughts and ideas ( very frustrating ). On the other hand a writer could be struggling to come up with ideas - that's the time to stop and do something else.

I guess there are quite a few "writers widows / widowers" out there ( some of whom can't take it ) - and quite a few overly obsessed writers. I think you have captured this problematic writers / and their partners scenario to a tee.

Very well done.

Love Mand xxx

some obsessed writers can still respond 'sweet and gentle' about this dilemma to their spouse/partner, and live the best of both worlds.
I can't live in two worlds at the same time.
It may be my loss, but it goes unnoticed by me. I have gained something else; peace of mind in selfish solitude. It may sound strange to some, but I can no longer live any other way.
This won't improve my writing but saves others from my unwarranted wrath.

so glad you grasped the idea of the 'poem', and its manner of execution.

regards,

Al
