I don't comment on other people's post cause I don't know what to say.

I'm sorry folks but I have a hard time commenting on peoples post cause I don't know what to say.
It's hard to critic others when your truly at a loss for words,
Can somebody help me with this issue ?

Comments

I'm sure we all do things differently but I
can tell you how I do it.

1) Don't read any comments or the poets
afterward if there is one.

2) Read the poem a couple of times, try to
get the feel of the poem and then read it
out loud. Try to capture the rhythm or beat
the author intended following punctuation,
form and/or frame. Read the title again, does
it fit.

3) Sometimes it helps to let it sink in, give
it a while and come back, but try to determine
where the poet was going, if there is a main
theme. It isn't always apparent so don't give
up if you get the theme wrong. Take notes if
you need to.

4) Begin your critique by saying what you like
about the poem (it really isn't necessary to like
it at all but you probably will like something about
it).

5) Look for repetition, weak imagery, cliches.
Did the poem make you feel anything, did it
cause you to actually see the images presented?
How original was the poem?

You don't have to make suggestions on every
poem and remember, it is only suggestions you
are making. It is their baby so be respectful.

I believe the elf has a workshop going;

Great reply by Richard, Just be yourself and say what you feel, if that is hard, always remember that most poets will come back to you.
Wondered why I hadn't heard from you (Smiling)

the rule of thumb is: you must give critique/comments in order to receive them. otherwise people won't know who you are. I hope I have helped you!

When someone reads your work
And responds, please be courteous
And reply in kind, thanks.

so take courage and just say what you feel. If a poem does not make you feel something, pass it by without comment. Others will surely find something in the ones you don't so don't feel guilty about not commenting.
