I know a City..

Soon, I'll be leaving Hobart heading back to the hills, mainly for economic reasons. I still be coming down here from time to time. For the few years that I've spent in the swell of the city, with Mount Wellington perched above it, and it's rivulet flowing through, it's withering and flourishing suburbs, for all it's cultural backwaters, and for it's cultural richness, it presents many conflicting perspectives and much inspiration.
For in all it's quirkiness, it's a very special place, and one I hope that any who happens to read this can visit some time.
I wandered down to a free art and music festival at MONA yesterday: "on the origin of art" and at the bottom of the museum, three floors down BENEATH the river Derwent, in a fantastic free exhibition, I turned a corner, and came face to face with this:

I paused, and said "Is that.....?" to which the guard responded "Renoir, yes" - and it was the real deal, an actual Renoir, a few feet away from my nose! And this is an exhibition that they let people in (for this weekend at least) for free! There were many more surprises besides. See:

All I can say is, if you're lucky enough to be down this way, definitely stop in and have a look at MONA.

I know a city, guts and all
you have to walk it street by street
feel the timbre of the pavement on your
pound swollen feet
and touch the fuse auger,
of every ageing wall.
