Must be the time of year as once again I feel at a loss what to do about me and Neopoet.
Having spent many years here and watched many poets come and go.
Some return, but something has to be done about the main stream of poets, even they have become less active.
Too many poets are streaming their work and not joining in on commenting.
Some the time of the year, but this is it seems any time, from Jan to Dec.
I think we should start to work in groups of three or four.
Where each poet has a group to work in.
Where new poets to Neopoet are attached to a group,
To start with we can form a group of three or four of the present poets.
Each time a new poet arrives they can be allotted to a group.
The responsibility of each group is not only to critique their own members, but to spread out and comment on members from other groups.
The priority is to your own group where you teach or learn to your groups abilities, taking in the wide range of workshops we run.
In the old days there use to be groups of poets and artists. They as you will find out, are among the top classical and loved poets of today and the artists that influenced each other are the same swapping Ideas and ways of writing and painting.
Can we group together and make this a place where we can learn better and become something together.
Yours Ian.T

Now this has become just a laugh, Five pieces and four comments, Three of which were on one piece, when things improve I shall start to participate again,
Cheers, Yours Ian.T, Sparrow, Yenti..

Not sure how we would organise it though.
As with the general malaise you mention volunteers are a bit thin on the ground at the moment. Maybe it is, as you say, the time of year.

By the way did I see this Groups suggestion somewhere else? A forum perhaps? I can't seem to find it, can you direct me to it please?

cheers,
Jess

This was aired in the community Forum 5 months ago on June 18th 16 and as it had zero comments I streamed it again on 20th June 16..
As members are welcomed to Neopoet they can be given a list of five members or even asked to join one of the pools.
But I guess the sharks would love some new meat, and us Blighty people, or Rednecks being so good at sport can be directed to the Olympic pool, Poets later can ask to join any group at any stage, it will give variety,
Take care my bru, and know that I can swim with sharks..
Yours as always Ian.

that this is too much shepherding and rules for poets. New members are already given a guide . One, just one, of the many new members I've guided this year, has contacted me at all. I may not have steadfastly given feedback but newbies mostly seem to get a decent welcome when they post.

Without changing the structure Neopoet has been through highs and slumps of critiquing in the past, how have we revitalised things then? We are getting a fairly steady influx of new members through social media now.

Frankly I think it is of some concern that newbies first experience of feedback is often a self-absorbed poem having little to do with the poem posted.

Jess

I think that the jogging of the memory of the poets from way back as we have been doing has brought many back.
The new poets are being looked after much better now as there are more comments and welcomes to each,
One thing maybe the spreading of the information of the site is helping, as on Face Book..
One fault on Face Book is that it soon disappears into history so needs re stating often.
Thanks for your reply things seem to be improving as you say and your attention to the site has been the main contributor..

too Newbie and other..
a comment is a comment
encouragement
Ive read the lack of comments
and then the complaint
of comment

no pleasing no one
but my instinct
says Poets will not give
up the ship and keep
writing...
keep commenting
and Keep Coming Back

Keep on Writing Poets
that can!
and commenting!
Keep Up the Great Works!

Your contribution to the site over the last months has been great thank you very much,
Comments many times remain in the thoughts of many that read you, time to write, and the normal laziness of many, sometimes conveys the wrong impression to the writer.
Never doubt that you are read by many here, take care and once again thank you..

Many think it is a bit draconian. Better we lead by example and encouragement. Every experienced member should be giving thoughtful constructive critiques. This does work. You'll notice that when more people do it exponentially more start doing it.

The response to my piece here has brought out a swell of thoughts that are beyond reproach.
Poets calling other Brothers and it is a wonderful thought,
I hope more read and join in this gathering, it makes the point of Neopoet complete. though I would love to see more of our poets drop in and join us.
Thank you all again so far, where are the ladies of our group????
Take care all and know that you are all loved as Brothers and Sisters, Yours Ian..

I wouldn't be opposed to a requirement of 3
comments before a poem would be posted.
It would promote comments, and the more
experienced members could take the lead
promoting valued critiques. It's a win win.

Richard

Ive seen twenty comments and up on
poems here
we have the data space for it!
most of the work is short
the actual Poems

Nice seeing you on here again

Mr Esker!

But do you remember when you first joined how scary it was to post critique on an unknown member's poetry?
Maybe after 3 poems posted a critique per poem limit established.
Then again most poets are anarchists at heart and hate rules.
Could/would we implement this?

Jess

giving new members a pass is a
wonderful idea, it could be a timed
event (1month or 2) or after 3 poems
like you said (which I like better).

I'm not sure if it could be technically
done but I know Andy is very good,
if it can be done, he can do it.

dude fixes things and he built this place!
the phoenix...
this place!

incredible!

most of which require at least some technical adjustment to the site.
I am about to put a great deal of thought and action in to making the Forums more active and accessible, which I will propose to the AC and Trustees.
Every and all suggestions welcome.

In the mean time remember, this site has been the best and only active poetry workshop on the web for 9 years, 10 months and 20 days as at time of posting.

All we have to do at the moment is actively follow the primes directive "Critique, don't comment".
Especially longer members, show by example.
That is Neopoet.

Jess

A like button on the comments would
reassure how much it is appreciated.
You'd have several for that last one,
and probably more over time.

This being a being democratic, member run site the real purpose is critique.
Perhaps I'm being a bit of a purist here.

Jess
