Off With His Head

I hear, next year, in Russia, a man will lose his head.
A surgeon's going to cut it off (the radio just said)
with full intent to transplant it (I heard with rising dread)
on someone else's body. I swear it's true, the aforesaid.

On hearing the statistics, my bottom jaw just dropped.
It's going to take him thirty hours, to bring about the swap,
with fifty and one hundred more assisting with the op.,
and once the action has begun, there'll be no chance to stop.

He's certain he can pull this off, this insane, scary act.
He's done it right already, on some poor lab bred rat
and promises that, when he's done, the man will be intact.
('tween you and me, you must agree, the whole thing sounds quite wacked).

I have to say, I'm horrified at this, and feel quite numb,
and wonder where this person's brand new body's coming from.
It seems to me they're all being used (I count by rule of thumb)
It matters not how hard I try, I cannot do the sum.

Perhaps you're optomistic, and think I'm being prim.
Believe you me I tell you now that things are looking grim.
If you don't want to wake one morn, a head inside a box,
avoid a holiday to Russia, and, on your doors, place deadlocks.

Its a strange world...(david lynch movie line by Kyle)
and stranger process this...
if performed..
They did remove heads from dogs and keep the
test subject going
other...experiments etc..
The Horror The Horror
and other...waking up with a kidney missing
at least one has the oppurtunity some places
to fair sell their blood...kidney
but entire body?
at one time the idea of moving lungs and heart
was a far fetched scheme
or many parts...

gruesomely enjoyable poem!

thank U!

for the very kind comment.
These thing do horrify me.... what is technology doing to our ethics?
it's scary

as science advances all neuoron lines or nerves
once connected
if heart beat is still on
by means in ICU
I don't have a clue
why in doubt are you

The human mind is rife
suffer no anger
have no strife
times a changing
man is reinventing
haven't you,Judy heard of IVF
so many gals have given birth
but inside their own wombs

life is like a river for ever flowing
see here afresh
I am not this time waffling
on such a page as yours
only with a view to inject optimism
coming from a poet who mostly is pifffling
but this one seems sound
just pray

the doc will be successful all say

I guess that means you'd be happy to volunteer your body for this man's head ??

But I actually don't see any connection between a head transplant and IVF....
never mind
I'll write this surgeon (or perhaps twitter him) that your willing to volunteer :-)

if science can help
long coma cases come alive
then so many guy's heads
can be used
from accident cases
to help ....

Science is just another tool
Judy take me not so seriously
life has many twists and turns
docs and you also know it

nice to hear from you again
see I have learned
not to waffle and piffle
you have taught me
you are a poet
who helps novices
and I have sacrificed my head
more than once
you know it
save the skin of the doctors
if You wish

What a horrible thought. Although, maybe I could keep my head and have a body transplant, preferably one 20 years younger and a lot thinner :-)
I like the rhyming pattern, to me it injects a note of the tabloids, that isn't an insult, but you convey the gothic/ghoulish aspect with a hint of black humour.
I likes it - yes I does.

Don't forget to offer critique on poems you read.

You perhaps should get in line to go after this guy....
but where you'll find an available body is a mystery.... you definitely cannot have mine....

Thanks for the very kind words re this write

perfect rhythm for such a ghoulish subject! I hate to think of the terrible things that go on in those experimental labs! those scientists should experiment on each other instead of poor little critters!

I've missed you

Thanks for the visit, read and very kind words

Yes i hate the thought of what goes on in these labs.... perhaps one day the animals will get their own back.... hopefully these scientists will grow an empathy gland after they die, and suffer regret in the afterlife - one can only hope eh?

As if I wouldn't recognize
the pen of one unique.
No matter that he wears a guise
he can't hide his technique....

I'd know it almost anyplace
'Cos I'm his greatest fan,
and always there's the slightest trace
of crudeness from this man.

I guess that's why his name is Crudd
but still he is my orange budd.....

Thanks for the visit and like :-)
