The "Edit" and "Revisions" tabs

Forums:

These are two of the most important and most woefully under-used tools on Neopoet.

The 'Edit' tab.
When you first post a poem you will see 3 tabs above the title 'View', 'Edit' and 'Unpublish'. You will receive feedback, hopefully offering suggestions for changes. If you choose to make any changes click on 'Edit' and it will take you back to the page where you first posted. There you can edit the poem. But this is most important! Remember to save those changes back to your computer, either replacing the original poem or saving it as "[title] rev 1" or 2 or 3 etc. The two reasons for this is that one, Neopoet is not archival, nor intended to be, it could crash or be closed. It is entirely your responsibility to backup your own work.
The second reason is that often you may receive a flood of suggestions and you need to keep your original poem intact in order to avoid losing your original vision in the face of other people's (well intentioned) suggestions. Called "throwing the baby out with the bathwater"

The 'Revisions' tab.
When a poet has revised their poem, either based on their own thoughts or other's suggestions you will see four tabs above the title 'View', 'Edit', 'Revisions'and 'Unpublish'. When you click on 'Revisions' you will see the changes made compared to the original. Often it is a long list. I normally click on the first and the last to see all the changes, but if you have made a particular suggestion you can click on the date after you made it and compare it to the most recent version. This is how we can see how a poem progresses.

I need to stress here that there is no obligation whatsoever to make changes based on people's suggestions, although I consider it polite to give a reply in comments about why I did or did not make a change.

cheers,
Jess

I have a lot of problems using the site. Firstly, as soon as I used the enter button or the scroll bar , the entire text of what I have written disappears. I have to highlight the whole area to bring the text back to view; secondly the tab for review, publish, edit etc are not visible - I have to guess and hit the correct tab. Can you please help me.

Cheers

Sounds like a full system problem, does it happen anywhere else?

How can I delete a comment that happened to have saved twice? It is happening to me frequently. It is my keyboard glitch, I believe. But, there must be a way to delete the redundant.

It will be sorted eventually, in the meantime all you can do is replace all the text in the repeated comment with a period.

As I said in the post, you need to save it to your computer and save revisions with a revision number.

FFS, in comments like this, I've asked you repeatedly to speak in plain English.

Lol, Jess - where's the 'like' button

and loved - you should always keep your originals, and not change your writes just because others suggest it ... you should analyse what is offered and only take what you really think might be useful to what you're trying to say
and keeping your originals allows you to review later and for reference of what piffle and waffle are :)

So far I did not know
Now I am wiser
also I shall speak in grammatically correct
plain English hence forth....please note

I keep my original intact and save as e.g. The Drags, The Drags02, The Drags03 etc whether the changes are prompted by myself or others, though that might be a bit OCD.

is that your comment or question or complaint, whatever it was-
"i always accept all poets views
as I am just a learner
jess you know

to where no one knows

Was fucking useless in a technical forum. I didn't say anything about grammar, although correct is good, I said PLAIN ENGLISH, clearly stating what your comment or question or complaint is. No pointless line breaks, sentences, or if you are not really asking about something or helping with something WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING POSTING IN A TECHNICAL FORUM?

I have problems with moving the curser when writing PM's and sometimes comments, the only way to move the curser, is to use left and right tabs, also up and down.
This is irritating but will cope if it is normal.
.
I use word for poetry and most things, then copy and paste this keeps a record of all writing I do on any site, as they are then stored in the appropriate folder as Jess seems to do.
.
A long time ago before flash sticks, I would always Hard copy all of my poetry, I know it seems a waste of ink and paper but at least I have near all of my life's works here.
.
Do you know of anyone that still uses floppy disc's, well they are just as good as the day I recorded information on them, see I really am old..

Take care all and please, NOT only reply to the comments left on your works but TRY and comment on more each day.
Have a great life out there and know we care,
Yours Ian.T .

WTF? Do you mean you can't move the cursor just by positioning and clicking the mouse?
Sounds like a hardware problem. Does it happen on any other site, like Facebook? Or in Word?

Something that happens on some sites is I click to where I want the cursor to be and it doesn't appear but if I type it goes in the right place. Try that.

Jess
