Must be the time of year as once again I feel at a loss what to do about me and Neopoet.
Having spent many years here and watched many poets come and go.
Some return, but something has to be done about the main stream of poets, even they have become less active.
Too many poets are streaming their work and not joining in on commenting.
Some the time of the year, but this is it seems any time, from Jan to Dec.
I think we should start to work in groups of three or four.
Where each poet has a group to work in.
Where new poets to Neopoet are attached to a group,
Each time a new poet arrives they can be allotted to a group.
The responsibility of each group is not only to critique their own members, but to spread out and comment on members from other groups.
The priority is to your own group where you teach or learn to your groups abilities, taking in the wide range of workshops we run.
In the old days there use to be groups of poets and artists. They as you will find out, are among the top classical and loved poets of today and the artists that influenced each other are the same swapping Ideas and ways of writing and painting.
Can we group together and make this a place where we can learn better and become something together.
Yours Ian.T
Is there anyone out there that would like to talk about groups the pool system was good but it left out the interaction between each member of said groups, it is time for us poets to interact with each other.

in the past
that got me into going over when I find time
(I do have my own life and my life helping
my ex...land the many muses...I am an
indulgent man as many are wont to be!)
blah blah...I go over the poems and write
something...as I was just referring to the
Elfs fine statement and my retorts..I do
not have the high teaching..I had ADD
due to the parents not getting along
had little sleep and being of portion of
advanced intellect was labelled a
snob and shunned in grade five...
nevertheless...believing in the social
demoncrazy of the world I kicked it
up some by going over the works on
quiet nights...

I love yer capitals..
'WHATS THE PROBLEM"

True...there was a time when the place
was vibrant but like all things
things change

even though I can offer not a hell of a
lot in technical advice...
I really know little in the way poems are
put together...just wing it by ear mostly
and some imput of late by someone
here...

I put in what I can
trust me if I knew a lot more technical
I would be throwing it in the ring
Ive worked or reworked on poems
in the past...but we are not publishers
nor publicists
we are instead a community
and I think pretty damned okay
for writers and poets
or prose bloggers

in regards
Mr Wolf!

Of late I have noticed that you have become more involved with the comments, it is much appreciated by those you wrote of.
It matters not a hell how much you have in your learning, it is not that which counts, it is the fact that you contribute to the whole.
I have never had one hour other than Neopoets critique of training in the art of poetry, I was in a secondary school and left at 15, no uni or grammar school training to assist my journey.
I left and as you know joined the Royal Air Force, from then till now I have had to steal knowledge and learn from others of many things it was the only hard thing in my whole life.
So I can equate with you on the point of knowing Poetry, I have help in the Siritual side and of many hours spent alone and having to work out what all the things around me meant.
Still I am well sometimes a little eccentric in thoughts but those ones are only questions to others, or to check their reaction.
Anyway young Wolf you being a solitary creature in many ways, there is a world to tell others of the things you have seen and from your writings they build a great picture, it's an Honour to know you,
Yours , Ian..

that U put in here. I think that was like last winter. after awhie getting some hours in it became easier. I find too me the writings are very personal being at this open level.
thank U Ian!

Sometimes commenting as much as I did became a thankless task and the balance of comments and being commented on became at first irritating, then a bit much to probably my ego but I spread the load and published in other places.
The fact that my works are very raw from the correct form of classic poetry, and I am at an age when memories take over and repetition becomes the norm.
I am more like the UN of Neopoet by trying to keep warring factions apart or share a peace lol.
Still I think that they should bring back the counter where it was the number of visits recorded instead of comments.
Thank you Steve for your extra involvement here over the last year or so, I always had you as a recluse lol.
Your works are highly thought of, and I am one of those that reads all of them, but time regretfully is against me commenting on them all.
The main problem here now is that we don't really know who we are talking to and commenting on, this is why I would like to see a closer knit groups system the pools are fine but much too large.
Anyway that will do for now it is time to read more, you take care young Wolf I see you,
Yours Ian..

I have come here recently and with above posts I see I have a similar background re self-education regarding poetry as Ian and Esker but we give what we have and want to contribute - and be assisted too.

I'm glad I saw this post as I was thinking perhaps to drift off as my poem got so far, nearly to completion re editing, and then no more posts and I don't know what to do as I feel left hanging. I wouldn't have asked for help with it if I had known how to round it up.

Nevertheless I am very grateful for the comments and ideas received thus far and have tried to implement suggestions where possible - also to go to the poems of those who came and helped, and seek to contribute there.

I don't have much time - or the circumstance - to be here as much as I would like. One wants to know that if a poem is posted there will be some steady response otherwise it can be discouraging.

A system of mutual support in small groups sounds like a very good idea. I hope other poets will back this. Thank you for providing a space for poets to gather and help one another to create well-honed poetic material. Let's keep this place going and thriving :)

Eleanor

You have it in one, most times when streaming poems here they are helped up to a point, then as you say you are left hanging.
This is where you just have to go it alone on a particular piece unless you specifically ask one of us for help.
The other thing is to join a workshop or two and there you should be able to explore many types of writing and be helped by some of our better taught poets.
Take care and know that we are still here reading as we do,
Yours Ian.x

love your wise words here and will take to heart... yes, we can't always be hand held to the very end and sometimes as Judy said on my poem 'Friend or Foe' one just needs a break and return later to it with fresh eyes...
Glade of your reminder re a workshop arrangement here. Just getting used to this first then may explore. Thanks for caring as you do and making this site possible. Appreciated. :)

All poets and people are precious to the whole,
Sometimes we may feel a little left out, and that is me also.
Just write as you feel, and then expand into other aspects of life and objects, we paint with words and please always enjoy the writes you do,
Yours as always Ian..x

I am thinking in photographic terms
Neo was slower...
the beginnings
and 2007/8 and the world and
the net is not 2016..now just half
over...everything was crashing
still from the recession of 1988
and growing downhill for most
since 2008.

the silver grains on a negative
of film with sunlight passed
from the aperature falling
upon it becomes more
stricter in contrast

I remember the low count
too me was like a
grey...a Meh as they
used to write on texting
via the cell phones
the high count of one
reading ones works
was a very definite
contrast...vivid
but the commenting
was not really as
good as lately

I think there is
more language
going on and interaction
for those that stayed
there is no rule saying
one can leave or
remain

I find I have a lot of
works that have no
comments
but I know they are
read....I write things
that no comments
are needed

I know people love the
technical aspects
of poetry....personally
I dont know technicalities
I make up for it in ego
and just the brutal
cranking out poem
after poem

it was you who on a
continous basis
and without a hit
and miss approach
writing comment
and noting that there
was no commenting
did I get up take
notice and start to
find the voice too
actually comment

I am bright and
pounded the lectern
on that fact
but truth of the matter
it was those who learned
from the heart and
forayed out to take
the attempt at writing
or living life that helped
me...my righteous brain
(so I thought) that showed
me the ropes...taught me
slow
their patience and kindess

there is a need for the basic
training approach
but this is not a publishing
site with its set approach
of selling a correct function
of format
go back too college
or university which many
do..Or crank out technically
correct pieces
for me its still art expression

poetry is about feeling
and many poets are raw
shy...brilliant
complex creatures beyond
the norm
filled with feelings
struggling to even get
that out on paper
I got so many F's
on compositional work
that I worked on and worked
on
and many sucessful writers
driven to make it their living
their way then too get their
voice out beyond the coffee
shop sharing had too do this

I think u can be helpful
in instructing
without the overbearing

myself I dont miss the
counters
or the stars
which entrapped egos

I like this simple
approach
the world changes
this site has changed

thank U
Ian for the teaching
and patience
and urging

Mr Esker!

Thank you for the compliment on being a teacher, that's a new one for me on poetry.
I have taught a few people in Avionics, and bush warfare on the communication side.
Now poetry, a much harder theatre, all I try to do is be with the poet and try to see where they are coming from, my times writing for people comes in handy for this.
As the trees that bend in the breeze, I will have to write in the direction that is mine only, then to seek out the company of Poets, there to walk with them as they would like me to.
Being part of a group is easier if you talk to each other, and learn of the ways they live and think up to a point.
Hours and days spent within ones own reason becomes a habit and is not good.
I call you young Wolf, because you are a solitary person that has seen much, and in doing so has equated those sights with the times you have lived through, to your poetry.
It is full of being and wisdom, most times I feel that your cryptic words are a screen, there in the thoughts that produce such flow is that young Wolf, free and wise, though maybe feels tethered.
Remember that you are free within your words as they have no boundaries.
Wander in think, and convey those wise experiences to all around.
Thank you for being you, Yours Ian..

are you the MISSISSIPPI
THE NILE
THE AMAZON
THE GANGES
Thames may be
OR
the entire thesaurus
flows from thee
esker your poetry is
marvelly
sweet as jelly
and like a pineapple
it is so metaphorical
like my friends
says
Vanilla
he loves
it
for it's vast
exhibitionisctic delivery
pulp and juices
an Auusie he!
what kind juss guess

we all put effort to sit and many work very hard
to compose poetry
like a meal or baking
once the domain of women in the time when
men were doing the majority of chores...
Not historically accurate...industrial times
everyone had too work....sewing and woolen
mills...hauling in nets...picking from the shore
selling on the market..not just eithers domain
but I use the baking reference or cooking
as I am getting more into this working for
my Bunni..and living on my own in the room
at the Voyager!

I make muffins and cupcakes..easy...get
this from the foodbank if U ask..sweets
for us all when I lived here with them..
or a meal...and people are like..Oh
Im eating out tonight...or Im not
hungry ....or say nothing at all...
better then saying this is gross
horrible..thats not helpful even if
its true....
but yah..
a lot of effort into things and
people want feedback...its human
to look for that pat...
how we encouraged each other

ha..like me all dressed up on my
mall crawls...I look everyone in
the eye but not enough too
challenge..and a nod...or an
appreciative smile...in turn
recieving smiles....how Ive
warmed...even why I am
here writing non stop
lately

bush radio warfare...
I wasnt bright enough for
memory work..but the
radioman in conflict
is interesting..
like magic...
the old shamans for
vikings and natives
were important
and medieval women
people who can craft
the techies are
needed

yah...we need each
other too reflect that
we exist..therefore
we exist
I remember the
loneliness of writing
for years on my typewriter
and then the joy when
I got living with those
wild women and they
would share writing
too....

maybe its like golfing
together...or skeet
shooting
ball playing
down here they have
mixed teams play
for fun in summer
I walk the dog and
we pass by there
it looks like fun
communities like
this..

but we are writers
a different breed

thank U Ian!

Yes, a different breed, Esker - thoughtful post... can relate!
