Secret Humor... [East Main St story]

“Hurry, hurry, get up it's late!”
How come it's so dark?
“We changed the clocks, remember?”

Get dressed, don't dawdle
Wash your face
Comb your hair

Pancakes and peanut butter
Tea, sweet and strong
Milk makes it smooth

The wind blows hard
It looks like rain
Put your collars up

Bye Mom, see you later at lunch
The school four blocks
Looking at later already

Hey! Wait!
What is it Mom?
“I forgot; It's Saturday!”

Frying bread dough
Filling them with jelly
Laughing at the joke

Reading tea leaves in the dregs
Wishes for happiness
Riches enough for us

I love you Mom...

Sounds like a wonderful mother, even though she may have been a little forgetful. I had a picture for every line of this poem. Great work, Regards Roscoe....

Roscoe Llane,

for the mask of disbelief that's left.

she didn't forget! She played a trick on us! My mother has a terrific sense of humor. All of us kids played jokes on each other and our Mom through the years. She has always laughed as hard as anyone, even when the joke was on her! She is going to be ninety years old this year and still enjoys a good joke; be it on her or someone else. ~ Gee.

A well remembered, wholesome vignette.
Well told too.
