Matchstick Coffins Matching.... Ends

Matchstick Coffins Matching…. Ends

Lowry’s matching figures walk my streets,
escapees of a man’s suitcase by the door.
Flat caps duly doffed as each one greets,
that very thin waver of life we so adore.

Despair in their eyes, they’ll die young,
some vie to get there by a means test.
This is not a theory that’s so far flung,
poverty will ruin lives till we invest.

Investment in people especially our youth,
we must try to reach the heart and mind.
Teach them how to live within the truth,
that it’s not a weakness to be kind.

I feel a punchy madness take over me,
aimed at the architects of misery.
They try to hide behind austerity,
reality, we pay for a bankers jamboree.

The political banking leeches suck us dry,
letting us all believe we have a future.
But this was all based on a flippant lie,
that everyone of us had equal stature.

They call us suckers, who cough up dough,
help buy Ferraris to get them too and fro.
Champers on ice keeps little hearts aglow,
as you drink H2O sold by, well you know?

Look see how many jobs require the suits,
the uniform of an elite fighting machine.
Most are mere pawns, better word galoots,
used to defend a hierarchy more so it’s queen.

History has taught us many things,
still we seem unable to comprehend.
We’re all equal when the fat lady sings,
that poverty doesn’t beget a better end…

Review Request (Intensity):
I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back
Last few words:
Take a look at our people on the streets, they're tired shells. Then look at the suits running politics, television, all the different media outlets. They've been peddling the same austere messages for as long as i remember, the church quietens revolt with the old - fat rich man on a Camel rhetoric.

A nice message conveyed through this poem which shows your remorse for the wrong doings in this world as also provides a very good message for the youth which i really liked:-

Maybe their task in life is to grind the poor down till they disappear, then when the poor have gone they will die as certain as the stars shining at night.
Grand write there, but piss, and against the wind springs to mind lol.
Take care they aren't listening it may become a capital punishment again,
Yours Ian
PS:- can you imagine a set of turncoats sitting in a room someplace monitoring all the pictures from our TV sets that are sent back as we switch them on or even when we fail to switch off the standby mode LOL

So, so true! More food banks, more cuts, more money it the bankers coffers.

:) great poem

Love Mand xxxx

Thank you mand, all the profit seems to go in one direction. But what really get's up my nose, is their belief that they're deserving of all the wealth we earn this country. And we should just be happy at what we're given. Love Roscoe...

now let's get down on the poetry. First of all I love the length. I have seen three or four poems of heft lately. I hope it's a growing fad.
The rhyme scheme is a blast. With whole stanzas rhyming as one.
A consistent meter throughout. The whole thing is cool (poetically speaking).

sinead oconner didnt fare that well
like brittaney the americas
although i Love her brittney bitch tune sung
in the uk accent...its on gran theft auto game
five..whose soundtrack and scene..cars..
etc I love...for the rec I like trevor in his trailer
by the wasted sea..in real time its the old Sultan Sea

over xmas new years I had a windfall
and turned it too my old lady whoms always been
well enough off by standards..bright but riddled
with anxiety...fast minded stubborn..
heart giving...I wonder whose the stone
and whom sharpens whom in our
street...our sparks a ritual in our dickenson like
housing...pretty as a peach compared to the
rest of the north american deluxe models
about as exciting as tin doll houses post
fifties sold in comix ads in the back

but..we are poor
the very broad distinction
a strange mix in our city
like a town...a fuedal feel
everyone knows whom they
are....we had a financial investor
for a landlord for a time
worse place...it was like some
north country run down
not falling apart feel..just
cheap..showers that scalded or
froze u..because he didnt want
to put in proper anything...had
a convertible..trips..never late
too collect the rent and did let
us rent there..fifties windows
pleasant enough...just deaf ears
just let U know he didnt care
knowing then there was no other
places too go other then horrible
places....
but I cannot imagine beyond this
living in comfortable enough
towns..cities
or having too

poor..what are u going too do
politics are always as close as a heartbeat
being me...and knowing people who
fought for their freedom...
getting out of their home lands
to come here
and from here fighting the tyrannies
etc...there...but in reality no one is
sure are they..are we...
I watched gamer platforms
play games...
and then watch hour long footage
of such likes as ukraine
images of gaza of course

I remember plath...sexton...bukowski
did they write of anti vietnam literature
No they were pretty much intellectuals
brightfully mindful in their own worlds
crafting what they knew would sell
stolid and solid

the person who brought us music
worked his ass off is very smart and
with a smart wife...he drives a range rover
and probably not a beat up old worn
out one from the noveau riche
solid and reliable like he always was

wereupon I was an extremist
and always poor...chosing the madness
and look...and minds to chum
carefully...
the high regardests do monitor all
as would any kingdom..a king or
queen being smart
robert the bruce for my history
and ojibways whom kicked butt in
our history here

social democrasy
I say and walmart
provides me with much
today...
i got poored down but
I see even the wealthy
shop here..

we dont have tanks
rolling in...we dont quite
have a dictatorships
but we have powerful
power beneath it
all...
what if poets were all
living in one hood
and the gov rounded
us up which happens
the last great revolutions
were the american and
french..and then russia
which was slowly happening
and then after that
pure dictatorships
of top end intellectual

our freedom today is
a great illusions
of the magi

we are free poor
technology requires brilliant
nobody in the euro or north
america can work on five
dollars an hour...
govs cant even get tax
at that level
commune up and you are
a threat
feeding you pablum
just enough
is big business
soma
is all about
the true reality of nineteen
eighty four
is that placidness
how can the poor
do much
but be poor

interesting...

just dont think too
loudly or much

opps

great poem!
insight
and enough sarcastic
edge

but I hear U !

8 years since the crash brought about by bankers........not a single one in jail. I agree with wes but I's add a comma in stanza 7, line 5 between hierarchy and more so reader knows to pause without having to read the entire line. Thanks for posting this enjoyable relevant poem.......stan
