The Nine Muses

Calliope
A long story to write of you,
An Epic will that do
On many tablets as in days of old
This is how your story is told

Clio
Of times past you tell
Of battles won, and times of hell
Rest a while let your scrolls foresee
A calming image, for you and me.

Erato
Sing lyric's softley to me please
A beauty toned from your lyre to tease
Play to me in dreams, stories of old
Tales from the Greeks so I'm told.

Euterpe
Sing to me in melodious tones
Play rhythms in modern head phones
“No!” You say this cannot be
On my Aulos playing, just listen to me.

Melpomene
Of tragedy you are walled in
A mask you wear that has no grin
Talk to me of things I’ve done
Where there is hurt in everyone.

Polyhymnia
A beauty of the Sacred Verse
Tales of love for the universe
Veiled from those that cannot see
Give me a glimpse of eternity.

Terpsichore
Oh wondrous words of dancing fun
A song made let lyrics run
Oh play, for me, on your Lyre
Let me dance away, filled with fire.

Thalia
Let’s have some Comic fun
Words of mirth let poetry run
That mask you wear makes us smile
Please let me wear it for a while.

Urania
With your eyes I search the stars
With telescopes that see afar
Poetry on a globe you know
A compass in your hand to show..

Review Request (Direction):
What did you think of my title?
What did you think of the rhythm or pattern or pacing?
How does this theme appeal to you?
Is the internal logic consistent?

Hi Ian!

Very erudite and entertaining...I bow to your skill of rhyme, I simply cannot get to grips with the disciple involved...I'm too much in a rush with the broad sweep. However, there's room for both styles, eh?

I is no disciple LOL but can use a bit of discipline myself, I put far too many words in my writes.
Just look at the Blog and the others on thinking they need a cull.
Thanks for your visit and you are welcome to pop over anytime, Yours Ian

excellently written of the great muses before
terpsichore I remember a bit from high school
this was from the upper classmen
but we sat at the tables during lunches and
talked of many things..

Thank You!

I have to live on my wits as I left proper school at 15 and 3 months, and went into the Royal Air Force as a boy entrant.
I have my works from then in an old exercise book and it is very interesting the things that use to flit through my mind
I started writing again in the sixties, from there I have learned all of my bits and knowledge of any writing.
I think in the last 4 years at Neopoet I have been on a journey of discovery in writing and the correct ways of things.
I am not happy at the moment as the muses was just one of my recent writes and there are hardly any comments on my work now maybe I have reached excellence LOL.
Thank for your read young Wolf, it is a new year and time for you to spread your marking scent in other pastures.
Thanks again, Yours, Ian

Got to agree with those above, this was excellent. Regards Roscoe..

Roscoe Llane,

Religion will rip your faith off, and return
for the mask of disbelief that's left.

Thanks my friend for your great comment, it helps that some of the research I do for Neopoets is helpful,
Yours Ian

Succinct, with good rhyme

the meter is out (to my ear) in parts, but nothing too major as to grate in any way.... I'd love to point out the few parts that could use a tiny bit of work, but I'm afraid that atm i have to use my tablet as my computer won't allow me onto the site, thus difficulty with copying and pasting.

'Play to me in dream stories of the old', for example, could do without the 'the'..... perhaps if you read the work aloud you may hear for yourself any other tiny discrepancies....

but on the whole i wouldn't be particularly concerned

A well researched piece of work, and i appreciate the labour involved

Love judy

Thanks love for your update and welcome comment.
I have edited a few unnecessary words out hope it reads better now.
It is so good to have you back as I seem to be getting many more comments with you on line.
Hope your comp lets you in soon, I had a problem about a month ago and joined under another name just to get in but finally the site let me in, no answer to the problem though.
I went right back to looking the site up on Google and then logging in and I got through , took a few days though lol.
Yours as always Ian.T
