Poetry on the net versus printed poetry

Simply this.
Remember, we are reading on a computer screen where we can escape at a click of the mouse, not on a printed page which is inescapable.
This does change the nature of our poetry, for good or bad?
You tell me.

You certainly have raised a stimulating question. Please elaborate though on what exactly you mean by
"we can escape at a click of the mouse".

Escape from what or in which context please.?

your can click to another on Neopoet or go to Facebook or Google something that roused your attention. Actually I didn't think my post required explanation.

Perhaps it was my shortcoming that I didn't read it that way. Will contemplate on this and respond.

(I respect books)
was at a wall
and it was M Scott Pecks "The Road Less Travelled" a snivelling anhedonic Christian piece of crap.

As with most things on the net, it is a fleeting thing, whereas the written word is permanent.
I think this gives to the net writer less of a feeling for the words, also the meanings portrayed.
I can change things so easily on this screen,
Yet my best thing is the number of books I have here, only last year I gave around 400 books to a school I know they were only National Geographic's but the children will use them well.
I have a few more here but many other books of all subjects and they are worth their weight in Gold.
Take care young Jess,

So find more reasons to believe in others..

my small flat is packed wall to wall with books.
I only hope they will be appreciated by my e-nephews and nieces.

I can only answer for me, I just write (when I can).
Not for the net or the printed word but for me, sometimes
I feel confident enough to share.

that If I lug a book in my rucksack all the way from downtown on the bike
and knowing i have to return it eventually that I will put forth some effort
into trying to get into the poets works......If its just one poets works and
I have a hard time trying to fathom the voice....Much like a river travel
or lake crossing of some and which are mysterious and fearful or difficult
there is not other thing then to cross it...Or get through the book of which
I have done.....and in turn finding an author that I enjoy...Or a way of writing
that bends my head which is good.....Like a muscle not employed..

I get your point that if we get bored..its not our cup of tea we just click on
to something that excites us and we leave comments..
much like u tube accounts and google...news comments now etc.
this is like school times...when there was the expected load to pore over
to get ones head working....

I write like I write....usually long drawn out words at more
except for my made up titles because I hate search engines
but pretty soon artificial intelligence will be here
and all this will be seen through..
literally the ghost in the machine can delve
which is artificial intelligence to me

poetry is companionship
and who wants an irksome companion
in the future we can search for our bedside
listener or storyteller
like we have our sound machines of storms
and brooks
and reading books
and spoken poetry
soothing nuance

a great thought Jess..
well enjoyed this

Thank You!

Which likely surprises most people lol. A great many people can type faster than they can write. And the more time one has to think about what you're writing the better the result is likely to be. So All of my poems are first written on college ruled spiral bound notebooks. I write them then read them then read again in search of improvements. I fear the few times I've attempted to write directly onto screen the results weren't too good. Plus there's the fact that a paper copy of a poem is likely to outlive an electronic version which also compells me to put a bit of extra effort into each poem.

As to reading poetry, I agree with others that a book of written poetry is likely to demand more attention and thought than a poem or poems on a computer screen.

One must first be able to understand the difference between "Venting" or "Blogging" and actually composing something that might be determined as artistic thought. That being said, even though I might be "Old School" when it comes to poetry, I see little difference in how it is shared with one's fellows, as long as it IS shared. Writing for oneself is good therapy, but it is only that if not read by other souls that might glean some kind of meaning from it to help their lives also. Even if it is a momentary diversion from our everyday, humdrum existence, Poetry is a medium that has been, and hopefully will continue to be, a force for change, for awareness, and for elevating the majority of humanity to a level somewhat above the slug!

be it a name scrawled on a rock with red tile...thats creative..
some slur is bad...but there was this ongoing thing at the
bus depot...a needle drop box..
someone had written , The Junkie Box..
which got a reply.
Who Know how to keep it Clean
etc etc

its not poetry but its written down
its not a blog that can be erased.
thats the threat of big censorship
if the state took over Neopoet

Yes.....writing as an outlet and
extension of understanding
beyond the formal letter..
I understand this very well..

Imagine a poorly written
Help letter
or ransom letter...

uh no..thats not written well
enough..try again..

I loved the eloquent letters and
poems of the turn of the century
and yet..thats also where the greatest
non illiterate ditties came from
the rap of its time..

I print nothing....
the awareness of the poem
stays with me with each and
everyones read here..

I always enjoy Lonnies replys and
comments

Thank You!
