words

Our stock in trade. For what is poetry without words? In prose we build plain buildings be they simple shelters of high rises. But in poetry we construct monuments to human thought. Thus using the Right word is perhaps much more important than in any other written form. I am considering renewing a "Perfect Word' workshop. If anybody is interest just say so here and feel free to also post a small comment on your opinion of the power of the right word instead of just an OK one.
"two roads diverged in a yellow wood"...or.....A road forked in the autumn forest?

The right word can make or break a poem/story. It can change the meaning drastically for some as everyone interprets what they are reading differently. I am not good at finding the "right words" but I do know when I see them in others writings and how changing something from an ok word to a right word makes a huge difference.

"Quoth said the Raven, NEVERMORE"

Think about Poe's poem had it's title been "the Crow" instead of raven lol

author comment

"The Crow" doesn't even sound good...crows are loud and annoying, I probably wouldn't have bothered reading it. "The Raven" is much more appealing.

"Quoth said the Raven, NEVERMORE"

Could have been "Quoth the raven, not again"

you are spot on about making the right choice of words ..it would be a good learning experience for me to participate in a WS dedicated to this. Count me in when you get started.

I'm still fishing to see if this idea draws enough interest to form a shop. (Also still working on a workable syllabus lol). Keep your eyes open , I intend to be ready within a week or 10 days........stan

Ok, I will keep a watchful eye. Good to know that your knee is fine enough to allow you to conduct a WS since it would mean sitting for lengthier durations.

Knee is worse if anything but I guess I must be a glutton for punishment lol.

be a welcome addition. But I tried this earlier in the year and it flopped. So give me a bit of time to make sure I've given it enough time to work right this time lol........stan

Truly. I have never been involved in one of your workshops that did not have something of worth to offer.

is a worthy obsession for anyone, for poets a necessity, for conversationalists a highly tuned temporal art form.

Better hurry up (yes, I'm rushing you... I desperately need a straight and useful workshop.
Welcome Gem. Stan is very good workshop leader.
By the way, if you need a moderator... I'm finally available.
If you have others in mind that's okay too. It would be fun to be a participant only. Weird, but fun.
