The City Of Stone

The City of Stone with its tall structures,
stands proud like a great fortress,
decorated with complex designs
in a variety of colours and signs.

Somewhere in the passage of time,
its soul turns into a poem without rhyme
the peoples' dreams and aspirations,
imprisoned by men of many ambitions

They hold the reins of power,
silencing the voice in others
oppressing and dictating
blind to another's reasoning

Then the day comes when the inevitable happens.
The people have lost their patience for tolerance.
They stand united to face the aggressors,
demanding their rights to their independence.

In their arrogance, their leaders refused to give in.
They gave the orders and their army started shooting.
The city bears witness as humanity is discarded.
cruelty tramples over love, begets hatred

The people withdraw from the confrontation
and the tyrants believe they are triumphant
until the people flee from the city
after leaving its walls in utter ruin.

The city falls into decline, its wealth depleting.
The power of the leaders suffocating, dying,
withering away as time passes by,
proving that their triumph is a lie.

The City of Stone stands alone
housing the memories of the people, long gone....

Stirring poem and in the context of what's happening around in our world.

A small correction you would want to make in L2S4

The people has [have] lost their patience for tolerance.

This is mans story, wealth takes over the cIties and towns, but without people even great buildings fall into ruin. A true parable of mans greed and destruction. Well written. Regards Roscoe..

As per my PM there are many such cities and even here they do the same thing through greed and lack of feeling for others.
This they loosely call evolution of a city, I find it bad..
Very good write on the subject.
