War

There are so few reasons for war
and so many against.

Among the latter, I'd like to underline
the loss of countless limbs.

Bravely, the maimed do wheelchair sports
or go on adventurous treks,
but leaders never say sorry
for having created this mess.

Last few words:
War seems to be a current topic unfortunately.

All wars are ego based as our minds are a permanent battlefield.
A soldier can only be a true hero by laying down his weapon.

Let the politicians put on the uniform of violence and greed - if this were to happen then wars would be no more, well maybe!

WW111 is what 'they' want.
Who controls the controllers?

What a mess we have made of it all.
And we are all guilty of allowing this to unfold...........

"Death" is nonsense: what is there to die?
"Life"? How could " life" "die"? That is a contradiction
in terms. Can "light" become "darkness"?
"Light" can only cease to be apparent

I'm glad to see there are some more pacifists on this blog. My father fought in World War 2 and if ever there was a good cause to fight for it was against Hitler. But of course Hitler was just another leader allowed to get out of control. That's why I believe in democracy. At least it allows us to limit the power of one man (and it's almost always a case of men rather than women ) who goes power-potty.
Best wishes,
Robert.

I actually thought about Thatcher as soon as I had written that line, but then I looked back in history and felt that the number of warlike male leaders over the centuries is still far superior to the female ones. Thanks for your critique anyway.
Best wishes,
Robert.

Your history books need a seeing to, I remember Joan who led her army, Boadicea led her army, I am sure there were many more Women who led their armies.
Now battles are fought by mindless creatures that sit in good suits in pretty building fiddling their expenses, and our warriors go out to die for them, give me a break.
They should be in the lead then we would see how many battles we go into.
I am now going into my cave and switch on my special computer that can guide a bomb up a rats ass, oh it's so much fun playing new games,
Yours Sparrow
PS:- If women were allowed to fight on the front line then wars would not last as long,
My Father fought in WW1 remember this was the war to end all wars lol
There are a lot of women outside with banners saying step aside Robert and read more books that tell of their wars.

My comment about Americans wrecking the English language (see below) was just a joke, but I forgot to put LOL. after it. (LOL., BTW., is one of those horrible abbreviations you people seem to come up with so frequently. LOL.) BTW the reason I put the photo of the bear is simply because I've never taken a decent photo of myself and I wouldn't look very nice even if I did. LOL.
Best wishes,
Robert.

is not actually mentioned in this poem, though it is in Another Woman Stabbed. How come there aren't more female boxers, murderers, generals and so on? The few female military leaders that have turned up in history have been exceptions and therefore highly remarkable like Joan of Arc. Men got so worried about seeing a women fight they decided to burn her. Men's ability to lead has been wonderful in many ways, such as in intrepid explorations of the world, but when it comes to war we should be a little more hesitant, except when some bastard like Hitler turns up (who was a man of course). Anyway I loved your comment, especially the computer that can guide a missile up a rat's ass. You Americans often come up with very colourful expressions. That's why we forgive you for having wrecked such havoc on the English language in general.
Best wishes,
Robert.

My cave is part of the eternal universe, it has one entrance in England where I reside, I live near the centre of England so when you are passing by, Oh damn I forgot you are Spanish now lol.
I have travelled many countries and been in two different armed forces, one as a serviceman the other as a civil Ian (like the break??).
We have loads of rats asses here, and they say we are never more than 10 feet away from one, no need to go to the house of commons eh!
Have a look at the profiles of some of the poets here you will see where some of them say they are.
Take care and go well and use plenty of sun block, it's only 24 here today so I am cool,
Yours Ian.T
PS:- It is going to be hard to beat the pictures of Jess and myself we can send signed ones for you if there really is a need, then your photographer can see what he/she is up against.

I have heard that the Hebrew definition of peace is the period of time between wars. A sadly cynical view, yet the 20c had nary a moment of peace.

The poem is powerful in its simplicity although I would like to see a little more depth in terms of cause and effect. Especially the modern terms of war- fighting in other people's countries over resources and blaming it on ideology.

An afternote, that may or may not be of concern to you, 'bear' in gay slang refers to large hairy men.

cheers,
Jess

I take note of your comment about fighting over resources in other people's countries. Perhaps there's material for a whole new poem there. As for the bear thing I am neither large nor hairy though I have a good friend who is but he is extremely heterosexual (to the point of obsession). Anyway it sounds as if I'll have to take a picture of myself one day, or even go to a professional studio. Perhaps with the right light or a little computer-enhancing I could look passable...
Best wishes,
Robert.
