Mentors will work with their pupils to improve poems via private message and monthly or weekly chat sessions.

is a good idea. It would be the natural place to go, read and comment on their work.

I would also like to see a workshop for rhyme...because I could use it!

the mentors would mainly do what they do now except, they will hold a monthly chat session with there pupils.

To me everyone is mentor who criticizes and critiques the poem and not the poet to help him improve in this art, but any mentor, even Shakespeare or Wordsworth criticizes the poet for being what he is, he is just a bully. A mentor never bullies or mistreats a weaker contestant, instead he guides others.

I noticed the search bar and logout s under tools. I think they will be better on the toolbar or on a toolbar on the bottom of the page for visitors. I see contact is under the help. I think it should be on the toolbar for instant viewing.
I think there should be a home page for visitors and a page designed for members. For example Neopoet.com for everybody logging on. A place on the sidebar with password login for members and a Become a member for visitors who wants to join.

The Members Page would benefit if it had a page with all the functions of the home page and other features designed only for us. This would be awesome. Similar to Helium.com where members can share their page with other sites as a favorite on their menu.

Having the AEC and Trustee in place is straight as it is. Dedicated advocates and community leaders could do all the things I see being prepared for Neopoet's family by dedicated poets here.

Being a technical person I am not sure my ideas go here after reading your ideas. The ideas for getting the programs like chat, mentor, greeters, etc functioning again is great. I am looking forward to the glory days of Neopoet again working together with everybody one to get the site progressing again.

I'm hoping the Creative Arts Society will recommend us to other poets. For example we are sponsoring the scholarship I am presently writing for. I got my school and others checking me out on Helium.com and PoetrySoup.com. Hope to get them viewing me and others here at Neopoet workshops as well.

A page the students to come, write and learn is a great future ideas that schools could recommended their student to. I hope to start a Facebook page for the Creative Arts Society at my school. They think it is a wonderful idea.

So this is who I am and where I feel more comfortable sharing. I come up with project ideas, create, design and build things.

It sounds great all these ideas here and hopefully all or most of them may be implemented. You have some valid points as well.

I once took a vocabulary course in which each student was expected to come to class with a word they expected no one else to know. This got all involved and could be a good basis for a " lite " kind of workshop.....stan

and I think it could really take off with the audience we have here. Cool cool cool *smiling* ~Pamela

I have always been keen and supportive of the mentoring program and will continue to be so. I'd like to get it up and running with one-on-one mentoring and workshops as soon as possible.

With regards to Ayaz comments. No "everyone is mentor who criticizes and critiques the poem and not the poet to help him improve in this art" is not so in this context. Of course the latter part is true but at Neopoet Mentors can be expected to have a reasonable knowledge of poetry, poetic forms and structures. That is why they are so hard to find. Whenever we perceive that someone really "knows their stuff" and see them giving good feedback, we should tell them about the mentoring program and ask for their help.

I would love a workshop on how to give and receive constructive critiques. I have some ideas and thoughts to add to this subject if this is a workshop people might feel is important.

Thoughts?

And it is desperately important to Neopoet's growth and integrity.

Too many people think it is rude to offer more than a comma or a word choice. There is so much help we could give each other with a bit more confidence, courage and honesty.

Give me a few days. I am on Holiday (vacation) this week so will be on and off line intermittently. So if you are game, I will get my thoughts to you and perhaps you can get yours to me and we can put a proposal out to Dan. Sound like a plan?

after viewing the mistake on another site of allowing 'guests' who were not members to view poetry that some was plagiarized and put on other blogs, now I know it's hard to stop that but if we allow people to view stuff of ours that are not members then it will be at our own risk to post poems and perhaps have them stolen. I feel it more in the interest of people and their poetry to not have it available to anyone who googles poetry and can just view the pages at random.

The mentor aspect sounds great and I am sure there are a lot here who are great in certain area's of poetry and the different forms which might be of benefit to people wishing to refine a certain style.

I totally agree with your idea on non-members. But someone looking for a place to write, learn, edit and grow will be looking for the caliber of poetry on a site to make a decision whether the site will be a good fit or not.
I wonder if there is a work around for this? Maybe an explanation for anyone looking to join the site as to why we don't allow guests to view. Or perhaps some rotating examples of pieces that have been worked and considered polished to show on the front page for non-members to view. They would have to be changed out periodically and that means someone has to change them and someone else has to offer them up for public view. Could this be done?
Just some thoughts in regard to this.

Dear all,

Apologies but I was a little busy last week to respond to these ideas.

I am now back and ready to go. I am going to run my own blog asking for ideas and also give people the opportunity to email me their ideas if they prefer not to use the blog system.

I see you guys are looking to send me a proposal...excellent, send it to [email protected], or add to my blog which hopefully will be up and running in a hour or so.

kind regards,

HS (Dan)

Pamela,

I am sure my email and PM's and blog will be filled up soon!

There are a lot of hurdles we need to jump over to get the workshops running freely and I am keen to get a couple up and running asap so we can use them as pilot's before launching into the main workshop arena.

I am currently, and pretty much done with the basic rules and leaders and moderators of workshops, then it is over to those leaders to write syllabuses and their specific rules of engagement.

There will be different levels of workshops so we can cater for all experience and skill levels.

Ok, I have said enough and I have work to do.

regards,

Dan
