Obamerica

Obamerica

Greenish-grey rain falls with merciless zeal
on cracked tar and concrete, and rust-colored steel
mouldy-grey pigeons now fly to and fro
releasing their bowels on the vermin below

winos and addicts lay sprawled on the ground
some vainly seeking what others have found
half-naked children converge in the street
rummaging dumpsters for something to eat

burnt-out remains of a boardwalk arcade
sings songs to the wind of its former charade
debris and pollution pile up on the shore
the water no longer has fish anymore

this was a city but now its a zoo
where rapists and murderers prey on the few
who wander the byways in search of relief
and maybe an end to their miserable grief

small towns are no better, they suffer as well,
from pestilence, poverty, horror and hell
nothing remains of the life we once knew
native American, Negro or Jew

Muslims and former politicos rule
a once-thriving country, relentless and cruel
they laugh at this nation of former renown
and praise Lord Obama for bringing it down

This poem makes no bones about who the target is in this poem. As mentioned in your last few words, there could be mixed reactions by the readers based on their political allegiance. Without being a party to it, I could sense your frustrations about the changing fabric of society, value system, environment , lifestyle, etc., which I believe is central to this poem. In as much as that, you have used the medium of poetry pretty well in sort of a "drawing attention motion" if not in the Senate or Congress, on the floor of Neopoet, which I found noteworthy.

For reading this and being so understanding of where my motives were coming from!

Before somebody accuses you of being racist let me first say that wrong policies are wrong whether pursued by a man who is black, white, red or yellow. Hopefully we will see this present pretender's policies overturned this November.............stan

I appreciate your honesty and your feedback as always!

Love the poem but America is like Britain, the money people run the government and always have. Prime ministers and Presidents just do as their told. Regards Roscoe..

Roscoe Llane,

Religion will rip your faith off, and return
for the mask of disbelief that's left.

I suppose you're right, but what the Hell, we have to rant about things anyways! I appreciate the read and the feedback!
