Soldiers Of The North

Liberty
What does that mean to you?
Its very clear to me
I will not tug the lock, bow the head
nor will I bend the knee

My Country fought long and hard
simply to be free
Scottish steel could not be denied
but the golden glow of English coin
bought the Aristocracy

Traitors foul sold out their own
and thought us they could slaughter
but the Scottish man held no fear
for he fought for son and daughter

Those shackles broke
and we emerged
as free
as free could be
yet we could only hold them off
for a few short centuries

But those days are gone
and in the past
they surely must remain
but I'll live to see my Country free
in culture, law and name

Too long we played the union game
too long stood firm and loyal
but I will not kneel nor take an oath
to someone cause they're royal

My country's kings are long since gone
along with all the rest
Wallace, Murray and The Bruce
among the very best

Yet those men still live
in many a heart
including this one of mine
so raise your glass your sword and voice
to an independent time

The ballot box is our best weapon
no more blood should be shed
but if we vote and be denied
I fear the streets run red

We are too wise, we are too proud
and really too damn good
to suffer any more
of this union and its brood

I have written this, from my heart
and its truth is only mine
yet I'm not alone in wanting home
to be free and strong and fine

The time has come to make our mark
as we did in days of old
and not let our Country be sold off
for sullied English gold

And yet my friend I do not hate
the English and their Crown
for the sun has set on an empire gone
it really has come down

Fight not for glory nor for pride
but for freedom and that alone
its in the blood and in the soul
and in the very bone

So heed ye soldiers of The North
stay strong and brave and true
fight not ye for a foreign power
for yer ain folk may need you

Last few words:
This year, Scotland will vote on whether or not to become an independent country again. This poem clearly expresses my views on the matter. Thank you for reading.

I feel the streets run red
should that be I fear the streets will run red?

Long but well worth reading. Most enjoyable read

Let your mercy spill on all these burning hearts in hell(Leonard Cohen)

Thank you very much for reading and commenting. It actually does say "fear". I will strive to keep my heart open also. Pity there are so many closed to my Country's plight. Thanks again.

It is a great shame that your nation is still being treated as a sick child that hangs on to its mother.
I feel for your lack of being what you would love to be, in the form of a small independent nation.
I regret that narrow minded people cannot see that to have a united kingdom all its parts must be treated with the same respect and love.
It hurts that such as yourself have been brought to this place where you refer to fighting from many years ago, it told us then that you were a people proud and free.
Bloody stupid people that live on the greed of Westminster and allow our great country to become split because they cannot see across the Thames either way.
I hope that they can change and that your nation doesn't split from us here, it would cause another hundred years of regret.
Those stupid politicians threats and stupid words come out of their stupid mouths, we need Scotland in our group here as United Kingdom, about time they changed that title as well and called us United Britain without the Kings and Queens and then gave all parts equality..
That will do for Sunday I hope that you walk the pathway that you need not the one you want, Yours Ian.T

There are a million reasons to believe in yourself,
So find more reasons to believe in others..

Scots wha hae, this is a wee cracker. Regards Roscoe..

Roscoe Llane,

Religion will rip your faith off, and return
for the mask of disbelief that's left.
