The River Runs

Spirited away into a void,
suspended in nothingness.

Moving pictures
of life flash by,
momentous moments
pause in transit,
allowing one
last celebration
of remembrance.

Instances of sorrow
smear sight,
the wretchedness tears
new holes in regret,
stamping days
that cross the soul
with melancholy.

Closing the shutters
of consciousness,
slipping into the
divine form,
swimming through
the dying river,
finally letting go

I slide into waiting arms
as Styx carries me home.

Have you ever watched Spirited Away?

Every verse in this poem reminded me of a scene in that movie - and it all seemed to move right with the plot. I may have lost the real meaning of this poem, because I just couldn't think of anything other than Spirited Away.

But on rereading, the poem has a darker tone. Not a bad one.

Never even heard of it before but you've piqued my interest I have a great love of film and TV I have over five thousand movies and TV series LOL I know its an addiction, my book collection is going to rival a Library soon I buy poetry books old and new all the time haven't read them all yet but I hope to have many more years to enjoy them :)

There is a dark tone to this poem it just simmers under the surface, the ending should tell of the writers mind at the close.

thanks for the read and your thoughts

P.S this poem is in reality about death and the journey to it... don't know if that is anything like the movie

In a way, yes. It is a Japanese fantasy animation by Hayao Miyazaki, about a little girl who discovers the spirit world.

Although it doesn't speak explicitly about death (not that I remember) there is a lot of symbolism in it.

Ahhh I am sure I would enjoy it I will have a look and see if I cant find it, this is a journey in part through the spirit world of life that leads to death, I got the idea for this one when I was laying in bed last night don't ask where it came from...

Thanks for the heads up I am interested to see it now :D

As you know from my talks with Sadie I have learned much of the Spirit world.
They rarely come talk to me now, but I know that they are there and would come to my think if I need them.
The lines of your poem:-
slipping into the
divine form,
This is touching their ways and how they are, it seems that as you rest you are being told of many things.
(Yet you hold onto those things that have hurt you, which are expressed in the other lines of this poem, but I will say they are slowly brushing aside the hurt with gossamer brooms, and starlight thoughts), lovely.
I let them talk through my think, and sometimes write as you will notice what they want to say, helps with poetry but they don't like punctuation or rhyme but I change things to conform to what I think others would like to read.
It is good to be classified as Mad by Wesley it gives me a strange freedom LOL.
When I see that write from you that flows with love of ones own convictions and that freedom not felt before, I shall be very Happy.
You take care of all your ways, Yours Ian.T

So find more reasons to believe in others..

I am riding a roller coaster of emotions as each day passes some are good some not so good, but I am getting there I am just trying to go with the flow but sometimes it feels like I am going against it, there will come a day(I hope not too far away) when that write falls from my pen, until then I guess y'all will have to bear with me a I write out the hurt and sorrow as best I can, Thanks for always being there hun your a good man I hope you know this.

Mad ? we are all a bit mad I think ;) giggle

This has a deep emotional effect on me - you know why, heehee. I haven't cross the Styx yet - just seen it from pretty close up! - but when I do, I strongly suspect it will feel like what you've written here.

Concerning lyng in bed - some of my own poetry comes from the edge of dreams.

Do you remember what I said a while back, about good poetry bringing forth so much more than merely its words?
Yah, most very excellent.

I have had some moments when I was ill that I cant still understand maybe this is something I brought back with me, I compose a lot of poems in bed I think of lines and make small memos on my phone in the dark so I don't forget lol... I have forgotten more good lines right on the cusp of sleep than I have remembered and written, I like to think at some point you rethink them again lol

I do remember you saying that, that's a high compliment Bro' I really appreciate it, it means the world coming from you

Haven't connected for so long!

This made me sigh...the letting go part was quite soothing. I seem to have lost my writing mojo at the moment, so i'm a little jealous you can turn out these classy poems. I always try and read your work even if i don't comment.

two of us have already compared
lives to a running river ,
a friend in Alabama
and I myself,
You are the third one
we all are now runners up
the river never returns
we all know that
memories fade
we all know that
but the way you describe
life
as a flowing river
none has done so ever

loved

I would love to read your river poem, is it posted here anywhere ? That's a very nice compliment hun thank you so much its appreciated...
