My main focus is writing poetry, which I have done since I was a teenager. There are three major genres identified in poetry: epic, lyric and dramatic poetry, treating comedy and tragedy as types of dramatic poetry. As for myself, I am not a classical thinker. I am not engaged to categorize a way to define and assess the quality of poetry. I write what my heart signals to my mind. In practice I do not use any poetic style and when I do, I probably adjust them to suit me. I am a free thinker, I do not like to be called a poet; I think describing oneself as a poet could be a dangerous choice. My poems are contemporary and differ from classical poetry. I don't have rules and types, though sometimes I may borrow some ideas from the classics like the Haiku. There is so much more focus on sound and visual aspects in my writing.
Alfred produced and directed several plays as a semi-professional. His productions included, amongst others: "The Exorcism", "Equus", "Night Must Fall", "Who Killed Agatha Christie", "The Island", "Night Mother", "Who's On First" and "Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs." These were all staged at The Manoel Theatre, the national theatre of Malta. He was also employed by the Colchester Co-Operative drama group, "Scene Around", as a director. The Co-Op drama group produced several plays and took part in two drama festivals in Colchester and Ipswich finishing second for both productions which were "Just a Song at Twilight" and "Savoury Meringue". He wrote various plays, documentaries, and poetry for radio. He also wrote the lyrics to "I Am All Alone" sung by Keith Russell. Alfred maintains that he is not a true poet as he doesn't t follow any particular poetry styles. True Poetry is a piece of literature written by a poet in meter or verse expressing various emotions which are expressed by the use of a variety of different techniques including metaphors, similes, and onomatopoeia.
