What would words be without the pen
Or ears to caress their sound;
A simple message when read again
Or ears to caress their sound;
A simple message when read again
So meaningful, if in love were it bound.
Would one but deny such beautiful thought
Of the writers impassioned plea,
If in simple verse it is brought
By his own hand, the silent voice is set free;
Words can be angry, or tender and true
Or may be echoed in gentle refrains,
Be they words of welcome, or a whispered adieu
Without words only silence remains
