What do you do?
No, really,
what do you do
when your soul won’t fit your body?
I gallop with pooka,
fly with kooka,
get drunk,
fall in love,
write poetry.
I have to ‘cos
my soul won’t fit my body
I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back

interesting...
kind of evokes Dr. Seus, which I get to read for my kids.I love the concept and rhythm, as offbeat as it is. What’s pooka and kooka?
pooka and kooka
Pooka is an Irish faerie horse that traps the rider on its back and drowns them. They are not always evil but always mischievous. Kooka is short for Kookaburra, one of my… um symbol animals? Totem? Again, pure mischief. 8)
thanks
excellent, I take it Pooka is from a story / fable, etc.?
my soul won't fit my body
yes exactly!
I like this poem very much,
I like this poem very much, it has serious subject matter but a real sparky quality to it. Have you ever read Shel Silverstein? I got a real feel of that from this poem, like comically mystical.
I still haven’t figured
I still haven’t figured out the answer to that question (with the exception of writing poetry, but then that is my solution to everything) but I like your solution!
Always, Cat
ta James, Cat
haven’t read shel silverstein, poet?
Cat, I think I need a new solution, getting a bit tired of falling in love and getting drunk, poetry never fail though.

Jess
"Funky"
Reminds me of 60s-70s John Sebastian or Paul Simon. I find it a very effective write, reminding me of the time our little girl burst out, “I can’t bear to contain myself!”
ah well
put it down to Peter Pan syndrome
cheers,
Jess
Went back to read the
Went back to read the original too; this is much improved. Love the pooka mention, not enough people know about those nowadays.
I like this but I sort of want more. What’s it feel like, to have a soul that doesn’t fit? Where do the edges rub raw?
you inspire me
rubbed raw edges coming soon.
cheers,
Jess T.
You've posted here my new ...
favorite of all your works.
Thanx,
Chuck
PS: Though if I’d written it (I wish I had), I’d have left out the comma after the do; it’s just not needed there … and causes, I think, unnecessary rhythm/flow interference/disturbance.
Hi praise from you Chuck
I am appropriately honoured and chuffed,
(comma gone)
cheers,
Jess T.

Read some of Shel Silverstein’s “Where the Sidewalk Ends” to get a feel for his style.
This piece is reminiscent of the work that I remember from him. I like it and wish that I could write these light-toned, deeper-themed pieces!
Do have to agree with Chuck about that comma. It is just sort of hanging there, doing nothing important. Poor little fellow looks a little lost.
Best,
~ Ronda
Thanks, good stuff that “Where the Sidewalk Ends”
Take a flight with kookaburra or a ride with pooka, you won’t be able to rid yourself of “light-toned, deeper-themed pieces”. teehee
cheers,
Jess T.

Your friend,
Mark
thank you, Mr. Advocate
