First off, who is the beautiful baby????

your poem is indeed an important question,
though not one I recommend asking a man with
a gun in his hand… but it is indeed an important
question for the world…

Wafi, I think this is excellent, so much meaning in so few words always packs a punch for me. your translation does the poet proud I’m sure (I recognise the name, does he post here?) Also, if you don’t mind me asking, do you write much in Pashto yourself (and then translate to post), or mostly English? Brilliant little poem, much love Beki xx

Manena Beki

Manena Beki, for reading and making such a seweet comment. So glad you liked it. Yeah Beki, this poet, Afzal Shauq, posts his translated poems on Neopoet. He is a well known poet among the Pashtun community both in Afghanistan(Pashto is the national language of Afghanistan) and Pakistan. He has published six books in Pashto language, consisting of poetry, novel and travelogues. Some of his poetry work is translated by American writer “Alley Bolling”, and been published as “The Twist Of Fate”. Afzal Shauq posts the translated poems from “The Twists Of Fate” on neopoet. His account is http://www.neopoet.com/Afzal-Shauq . I love his work a lot.

Yeah Beki I write in Pashto as well. But usually I dont translate my every poem into English. Majority of my poems on Neopoet is my original work in English, while some of the poems are translated from my Pashto poetry, which I thought would be good if I tranlsate them into English, inorder to convey the same message to the world which I share with my own people. For example my poem “Heaven On Fire”( http://www.neopoet.com/node/21982 ) which I wrote about the Internally Displaced People of Swat, first wrote in Pashto language, then its translation in Enlgish and also in Urdu, inorder to reach more people.

Thanks a lot dear Beki. Your loving comments always fill my heart with happiness and gratitude.

Love,
Wafi

I also agree with its message, wish there was someone to smile on us all here that way…

I have no idea what the original poem looks/sounds like, but would love to read it. Do you think you can post a transcript of it?

Thank you so much Nina, for the translation.
In the Pashto version of this poem the title refers to “Smile” (noun).
Loved your suggestion of translating it into other languages. I translated it into two more languages, Urdu and Persian.

I told Afzal Shauq about your German translation of it. He is glad and thankful to you. Shauq wants to include the German and other translation of this poem in a book, “The peace wisher Afzal Shauq”, which is going to be published in Canada, which is a world wide critique about Shauq’s work.
Shuaq was asking me if you have posted the German translaion of it in any German websites? If you have, then please provide me the links so that he include them in his coming book.

You can read Shauq’s books online, or download them, follow the link please http://khyber.org/books/ashauq/index.shtml

P.S; The 5 stars rating(Awesome) is for Ana’s idea and yours great suggestions that you have always blessed me with……

pourquoi
faire les fusils parler?

Note: I haven’t really spoken any French for 10 years, so there might be an error or two in there.

I’d love to see a Hebrew version, but I’m hopeless at grammar when it comes to Hebrew (same goes for Spanish and Russian, by the way), but I could at least try.

Yours,
~Nina

Sometimes my eyes
Fill up with tears of joy
And
Though I am always cool
At times time does annoy…
But your poetry has taken my heart away
now it has stopped beating anyway
And
Your words of love
Will ever stay
As my heart starts again
To beat its usual way
