His Many Fortunes
He looked upon her smiling face
When he asked her for her hand
And as she cried her happy tears
She asked what he wished in return
He replied with measured grace,
"The fortune of Ivory in your smile."
Five years later as each was there
Face to face in a celebration of love
She looked into his eyes
And asked what he’d received
He replied as he stroked her hair,
"This fortune of copper ‘neath my hand."
Ten years had passed from the first scene
They were talking of the years gone by
And as she reached to take his hand
She asked him what more he wanted,
He replied looking into her eyes of green,
"That fortune of Jade within your eyes."
Twenty years had gone flying past,
They watched their last child leaving
As she held him close to her
She asked why he was so content,
He replied at long last,
"The fortune of immortality you’ve given to me."
Thirty years and still they were one
They sat and watched a Grandchild play
And as her hand brushed ‘gainst his
She asked what he’d gained these many years,
He replied as her hair sparkled in the sunlight,
"A fortune in silver upon your head."

Great Love story

Thank you on everything. It hasn’t always been clear sailing and a fair wind but we have had each other. The funny thing is that I can count on the fingers of one hand the fights we have had. All told, it has beem good. God has blessed us.
Many thanks. I remain

Absolutely Beautiful
and so touching. You are a gifted and blessed man.
Congrats on a masterpiece!
My only suggestion is to put a space after Fortunes and before ( in title
Thanks on all counts
Tom, I appreciate it and be darned if I know how I managed to mess that up. I hate missing stuff. I appreciate you commenting and I know I am blessed, but I think you are too, my friend.

Count on one hand the many fights.
Lost count our first year, not enough hands, but still a good marriage, with all its good and bad.
Thanks Barbara
Fights aren’t always bad. It clears the air at times. My first marriage didn’t last but 2 years and I don’t know how many doors I put my fist through since the only way I’d ever hit a woman is to protect my life. She ran off with my best friend. As the old saying goes, I miss my friend. I did get it right the second go around. 33 years and counting now.

It’s so rare that people actually have what you have. I’m jealous! I think it’s beautiful, though, and see the same in some of my family. My great aunt and uncle have been together forever and to look at them, they act like they were just married yesterday. I hope I find this some day.

Thank you Jess
They say that there is a person for everyone, but finding that person is the trick. I had to wait for mine to grow up and she was the last person I would have thought would be the one. I am truly blessed to have found that one person. I wish for everyone to find that one love that was meant for them. I wish for you to find the happiness and caring I have found Jess. PS: When we go out we still hold hands and will hold hands across the table once in a while as we eat. We still say I love you about a hundred times a day.

Ya to communication 16 years and counting.
Fights continue.
Two fold commitment makes it work for us.
Yes
Marriage is compromises. It can’t be me me me or you you you, it has to be us us us. I wish for many more for you.

For Ever
True love is not a myth…it does exist…and you have the proof!
I love the last line of each stanza…nicely done…thank you Rett!
Thank you!
Yes, it does exist, but 35 years ago if someone had said it does I would have laughed in their face. I found mine and I thank God every day for the blessing.

Thank you Chrys
I will have to think on that a bit. You brought my attention to it and I noticed an error that no one caught. (Whew) I corrected said error. *G* no I won’t tell.

Wonderful
I smiled reading this one. My grandparents were married 50 years when my grand ma died. They had their tiffs, but never went to bed without saying they loved each other. Grandma said, “dont let the sun go down on your anger.” I am 45 and have yet to find that. I can count my involvements on one hand with fingers to spare. I have been married once. It lasted three weeks. We were together off and on eight years. It was not good but, I think I believed love could last. I am not certain I ever want to believe in love again. God bless you and yours. I do love to read a beautiful love story. Thanks again.

Thank you very much. I am sorry that love hasn’t worked out for you. It can be a tricky thing. Don’t give up on love though. I love your name, Dana. Believe it or not I had a girlfriend once named Dana Leta Jones. She was a little bitty gal with a temper like a pit bull. *LOL* Thank you for reading and commenting. I hope someday you will find the one meant for you.
