From faith and family Irva feared to stray,
So that relationship did not quite burgeon;
Then he let charming Edith get away,
In part because she was not quite a virgin.
Miss Erna chased him not quite hard enough:
His amorous response, in his own phrase,
Was "incomplete." (‘Tis but of late there’s stuff
To help an aging man with that malaise.)
Meanwhile, his secretary made long strife
With Constance Keith for Percy; and their war
Continued after Constance was his wife,
And even after Percy was no more.
But Percy loved work more than love or sex;
And his next work was finding "Planet X"!

I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back
Wealthy and flamboyant astronomer Percival Lowell (1855-1916), remembered for claiming martians had built canals on Mars, took a serious interest in women only well into his forties and after the passing of his doting mother...

Thanks! I have posted a bunch of them here (you can find them on my profile) and some at poetbay.com. The whole damn project should end later this year with the discovery and naming (after Pluto the planet after Pluto the god) of the element plutonium, and will come to around 155 (mostly) Shakespearean sonnets.
